Summicron-C 40/1.4 Lens Cap

1. Anyone know of a source for these or a substitute that will fit with the lens hood on?

2. Is there a metal hood that fits the lens?

Have emailed Leica a couple of times but no reply!

A b+w 39mm filter screws in well enough to be tight, and I just screw a heavystar 39mm filter into that. Works great for me...

HeavyStar makes a cap for their hood as well as the adapter from Series 5.5 to 39mm.

Ooops! Yep the 40/2. I use the Nokton too. Think I may have found them at DAG. The HeavyStar shade looks good.

Just to tie this up I found out from Leica Mayfair that Solms still has stocks of the original lens cap and the rubber hood.

I have a spare lens hood, but many users of such a lens seem to havor a rigid lens hood by other brands.

Yep, bought a Heavystar metal hood, and fit a generic lens cap over it. Works wonderfully.

The official Leica lens cap for the 40/2 is a flexible rubber thing that fits on the thread for the Series 5.5 filter. And as others have said, it isn't a standard E39 thread. And the official lens cap is a snap-fit hard plastic cap.

I think that was the biggest complaint of the otherwise superb lens - the quirky hood and cap.

I have this adapter for my Summicron 40/2 and the generic 39mm vented hood with cap, and it worked pretty well until it got stuck on there one day...Really, really stuck. I ended up loosening the lens in its mount in the process of trying to remove the adapter, and had to get out the lens spanner to tighten it back down again.

Maybe it was a change in temperature or something, because just the other day I tried to simply twist the adapter off again and it screwed off the front without any hesitation. Now the adapter seems to be stuck to the vented lens hood though. :/

I bought both items through Heavystar, and can't say that I have any complaints about the build or quality of them, but I'm not putting it back on the front of my lens. I would recommend that if you find it stuck to the front of your lens because you put it on there in summer, and it's now winter... wait for a warm day to come around, it might twist off with no problem.

I've since moved back to using the inconvenient and quirky series 5.5 rubber hood and push on cap.

Interesting that Leica still has inventory. It was passed around years ago they were no longer available from Leica. Guess I'll have to investigate as I have neither and relied on the Mickey Mouse route.
