If I used a 40mm lens, what would be shown in the VF of the M8 or the M9?
The 40 pulls up the 50mm frames

So the M8 shows the wrong view?

So the M8 shows the wrong view?
well there's no Leica that i know of aside from the CL that would show the correct 40mm framelines. These lenses are 'by default' supposed to bring up 50mm framelines on M cameras....however as my mount brings up 35mm framelines, likely due to a loose area of the mount.

I will have to try it out to see which view I am getting.

50mm but you can file the flange to bring up 35mm framelines.

I would not modify any lens this way.

You know that you can, the rest is up to you.

I filed my flange (actually the cam that sets the frame line) and it brings up the 35mm frame. It works very well and it took very little filing. Just make certain that the filings do not get into any undesirable places like the glass or moving parts.

I modified mine as well. The 35mm framelines are perfect with this lens on the M8.
