It's a little later than mine, Mike (s/n 1119xxx). That's all I can tell you. How's the front element? Mine is really quite marked but it still takes good pictures, it's just a little flarey.

Hi ben & mark,
Thank you both! Our JWW in RFF Classifieds is selling one. He's all the way in Hawaii, which is half way round the world from Jerusalem. The one thing that bothers me is a bit of haze in the lens... I don't know on which element. Here's the Link to the Ad:

Comments very welcome!

Mike, I bought my collapsible with haze. I had it cla'd by one of the usuals. Came back crystal clear. I think you always have to allow for a cla on any vintage gear. Stu

After reading the ad I see Focal Point already did a cla. I'm sure the receipt lists all the defects they found. Stu

Thanks Stu+All,
I've just bought my 3rd J8 from the mid-70's... They are superb.
So we'll see on the Summicron Collapsible.
Cheers, mike

My collapsible Summicron (1044xxx) arrived with so many front element cleaning marks I considered sending it back. Quick check on the R-D1 convinced me to keep it. It is the sharpest of my older LTM lenses (Summarit, Summar, Nikkor SC and Zeiss Sonnar - admittedly none perfect).
The only knock on this lens - and I have heard this from other owners - is that the aperture ring is ridiculously tight. Though not so much that I feel the need to send it to DAG for this one annoyance.
