Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph compared with Nikon 35/1.8

I have never done a side by side comparison, and I wonder whether users of either lens could comment on possible differences between the Lux and the Nikon ltm. Both are good lenses.

The cost is similar at around $1600, and the performance is quite similar for color images at 1.8-.

Patience. I picked one up for A$1600 with the 12504 hood. It's not in perfect condition (the focus tab needs repairing) but the glass is absolutely perfect and the images are magical.

Raid, as you appear to have both, its time for you to head out the test range and give us some side-by-sides. I'm not sure how amy others will have both!

I have never gotten to use the Nikon lens but the Leica 35 1.4 was my first Leica lens back in 1990 and it is still one of my favorites along with the 28 Summicron. Joe

I voted for the Summilux, that is, for the steel rim version. That is a better lens than the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 rangefinder lens. Above all the difference can be seen in the corners of the images.

Love my LTM Nikkor. Older design than the Summilux, so not surprising that it is a bit weaker technically (the lux is quite rectilinear, the Nikkor not really). Plus, unless you bleach it, your Nikkor (like mine) will be slightly yellow, so I wouldn't use it for color.

Then, in S-mount (and a single M mount copy that I know of), there is the 35/1.8 Millenium, with different glass and coatings.

Only have the Pre-Asph Summilux, so a limited experience. It is a later model and my go-to lens for a fast 35. Small, sharp, low contrast wide open, and produces wonderful negs and digital files.
