Summilux 35mm pre-asph photos

Is the "pre-asph"the same lens as "Version II" of the 35mm 1.4?
If not, are these two versions similar in performance?

version II is included in the pre asph
and then comes ASPH

Approx. serial #: versions:
ver 1 /#1760xxx-2166xxx
ver II / #221xxx-325xxx

Erik and Helen,
Thanks for the clarification of the term "pre-asph" to me.
It seems that when one lens was optimized for 2.8 and larger, some sacrifice was made for larger apertures, and then the scarifice was changed for the next model.

Leica M2, Summilux 35mm f/1.4 2nd version @ f/5.6, Tmax400 printed on Ilford MGIV.

This shot makes clear the lack of flatness of field. In the center of the image the background is still reasonably sharp, but towards the sides the backgroud becomes more and more unsharp.

Erik.

And in case anyone thinks it's just Erik's lens, I have exactly the same effect with my pre-Lux. It's a lens designed for reportage where the centre of the frame has to be sharp and who cares about the corners. I'm not knocking it though...just something to be aware of.

Such a lack of flatness of field can be effectively used for people photography. I don'tsee it as a flaw at all.

All with M4-P / 400PR / Rodinal 1:50. The vignetting comes from my attempt to fit a E39 filter to the lens ...

OMG...I don't believe it. It's been this long since I last posted a lux35preA shot?!

DEEPWHITE: Glad to see You posting again w/ the 35...Lovely

GABOR: I made that shot a FAV ...the blks & Lighting are magic

From a documentary project I'm doing on local community theater.
Horrible lighting. The first was wide open at 1/16th. The second was a faster shutter speed, but still wide open.
Both are shot backstage.
