Is that overkill?
Am I, as MelanieC would say, "making a stupid purchase"?
Is it "the best lens made bar none"?
Just phishing for opinionated opinions...
It's a "used" lens; not too old..... I don't know if I can justify or stomach the cost but I don't get too many opportunities at the ASPH version and I have been hunting for a "reasonable" lux lately.

E46 or E43?
The difference is about $700

I saw your post over there and was wondering whether or not you bought the lens. The results I've seen from the 50/1.4 ASPH are stunning. It is, without a doubt, my dream lens. So, if I had the money right now... well, you know what they say about fat kids and smarties!!
Oh, I just see you are looking at an Asph.
Way out of my league, wish it weren't.

ya.. I know Marc..
I just don't know if I can pull the chute right now.. I'm going to crunch some numbers.
This would be.. without a doubt.. the most money I've spent on a single lens...and that is for a USED copy... and that includes what I own of my Canon AF gear that I purchased brand new !!

Agreed, it's a tonne of money for a lens (and the price seems even more out there when you consider that it is a standard 50mm lens, and a used one at that). But don't you see? If you buy it, then maybe I will get invited over to play...

As an owner of the 35mm/f1.4 ASPH and one or two other ASPH lenses I'm not biased against these modern lenses. My personal preference is for the pre-ASPH 50 Summilux, because I prefer the look of that lens to the ASPH version. If you have made your comparisons of the outputs and still want the ASPH then I would say go for it. I compared and chose the earlier lens after looking at a lot of pictures, both print and online. I haven't regretted my choice.

Thanks for that Peter.... I just have heard so much about the ASPH lenses that it makes me wonder just how great this lens could be.
That said, I know it would also be "great" to save.. oh.. maybe about $1,000 USD in buying a pre ASPH vs the ASPH.
I, unfortunately, have not seen many photos with the ASPH - so I'm flying blind here... only seen pre-ASPH shots which really got me going..

Dave: send me your e-mail and tonight I'll try to send a nice, large pic taken with an Epson RD-1. Are you on broadband or dial-up? There is quite a "wow" factor with this lens when everything comes together. Also true, IMHO, of a dual range Summicron, FWIW.

Also take a look over on flickr, the 50/1.4 ASPH is bound to be tagged on that forum so there should be lots of pics.dcsang said:I, unfortunately, have not seen many photos with the ASPH - so I'm flying blind here... only seen pre-ASPH shots which really got me going..

*sigh*
Even though I was in talks with the seller - someone else scooped the lens out from under me.
So.. I guess the extra $$$ to be spent on an ASPH Lux will have to wait for now..
C'est la vie

I was just about to ask if it was you who bought it. I'm sorry to hear that you were scooped. That's not right at all!

Ya.. I agree Marc.. it seems to be my lot in life... oh well..
It's a luxury item; buying it or not buying it is not a life and death sort of thing so therefore I'll just wait till I see something similar come about.
Oh....but your Luigi case arrived
It looks very nice on either M
Thank you

Dave, are you a Canon shooter? Because from what I've seen, I'm not so sure the Aspherical 50 Lux has much over the new Canon 50/1.2. Except size, of course. And the M mount.

Well.. that's the thing Kev.. I will, eventually, snag the 50mm f1.2 for the 5D.. it's just that it would be nice to "play with" (for my own photography) the Lux ASPH
.

I'm glad that it arrived safely and that you are happy with it. My strap actually arrived today as well. So none of the cameras are feeling left out.

One thing I noted about the strap.. it's a lot softer than I imagined
I can see why, when you get one of these cases, you want to outfit your other cams with them as well
Oh.. and I sent Jorge a PM - I want dibs on his 50mm lux ASPH
