Does anyone have a photo that shows the pre-asph Summilux with the built-in hood? I'm interested in seeing how the hood works, and how small it looks with the hood up, and down.

My oh my that looks gorgeous! I've ordered it (prepare to see more stuff for sale!), and mine is serial number 39xxxxx which he said was about a recent as they come, but yours is a 40xxxxx so even more recent! Thanks so much for posting these pictures. I couldn't find ANYTHING on the web.
2 more questions if you don't mind...
What filter size do you use? Just a regular 46mm filter?
Will the regular lens cap stay on with a filter one?
Thanks again

Wintoid: those photos are of a "unique" version of pre-asph Summilux: body of the "original" Summilux, with the hood of the last pre-asph.
In any case, that's the collapsible hood. I think it's there for show, doesn't look very useful, but it's better than nothing. Certainly better than having an attachable hood getting into the viewfinder framelines; that's the reason I don't complain.
The latest nonspecial edition pre-asph does take E46 filters; the older ones take E43, which I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Mike's take.

You can use a regular 46mm filter on this lens as the hood will clear it (Mike's lens has the E46 engraving on the front rim). If the cap is a regular Leica type with the snap handles the teeth will engage with the filter rim just as they do with the lens rim. Personal opinion here but I mostly find the Leica slide-out hoods annoying. Two I like: the 75/2 ASPH - you twist the hood after you pull it out and it locks - what a concept! Also I have a Canadian 90/2 pre-ASPH on which the sliding action is very heavily damped. Others I have used slide in and out too easily, and that includes Hexanon-M lenses from Konica. I think a good tech can fix it if the hood is a little too loose for your taste. The lens is wonderful though I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Leica assigns serial numbers in batches. Mike's lens could well be older than the one you are getting. The 40xxxxx series has been used for black paint lenses for a while, very nice lenses but the feet scale is in red instead of yellow - not as legible.

First is a shot of my MP with pre-ASPH Summiliux. Then a couple pictures taken with this combination with Kodak 400CN.
