Great shot Rick. I can't help but make up a story, since this is a reenactment. Lucky guy, grabbed the bike, got the girl!

That's what the Summitar is all about, I swear I see Kodachrome.
The Summitar is, and always has been, one of my favorites. The color and contrast are gorgeous.

After looking through all 16 pages of this thread, it convinced me to search out a Summitar, to augment my 2.8 and 3.5 Elmars. Found an uncoated 1938 example, with the glass in surprisingly pristine condition. No haze, and only a few very fine 'cleaning marks' seen with a bright light on the interior surfaces. Was amazed the front element was essentially scratch free.
Not sure what hood, though. This lens doesn't have the 'groove' in the knurled ring at the front, as do the later versions. The dealer didn't have the SOOPD, but tried a couple of SOOFM, marked for use with the Summitar and Summicron. However, he said they just seemed a 'bit loose'. I opted to pass on those... Curious if these clamp behind the knurled ring, or there is a different hood that would be suited to the 1938 version?

I'm seeing the ITDOO hood as a more compact alternative too the SOOPD. Not cheap though It looks like it clamps on similarly as the Barn-door hood. So you'd probably have the same issue with it.
A screw-in hood might a better option. Though, I'm not sure there are any in that thread size.

Appreciate the information. I just looked at the big auction site. It appears there are two primary versions of the SOOPD. The early version is a "clamp on", that is secured with a set screw (which seems to be the one I need.) The later version is a "clip on" type, that relies on the groove around the front of the lens. (Similar to my IROOA, 12575, etc., and the same attachment method as the ITDOO you mention.)
I am awaiting an SNHOO. I'll try that with a 39mm screw-in hood in the interim while I search for a proper early SOOPD.

Good luck
I had a vague, and as it turns out false, memory of using a SOOPD on the Xenon, so thinking along that line I thought the XOONS clamp-on hood for the Summarit would also fit on the Summitar....The answer is NO. Just tried it and it doesn't fit. It seems I'm getting old.
