What to expect with an uncoated Summitar?

What to expect with an uncoated Summitar?

I am waiting delivery for an uncoated summitar, 10 aperture blades. No haze or cleaning marks. I usually shoot TriX, Berger 400 or as of late I shoot a lot of rollei 80s, with a deep red or IR filter. For color I shoot portra 400. What should I expect with the summitar for these applications? I got a generic hood from heavystar and I hope that is sufficient. I will pair this with my first barnack (iiiF red dial), and I am excited to use it.

Wide open, expect a very sharp lens in the center with Renoir-like phenomena as you get towards the edges of the frame. I shoot mine, a 10-bladed coated, on the digital and film Ms with pleasing results at close to mid-range (up to 10 feet). Stopped down it is completely useable in other applications, but that's what Elmars are for.

I've always tried to follow the example of the good Summitarian...

It's beautiful (I have a coated 10 blade which is prone to a little flare, but lots more flair). I consider it my most serene lens.

Why thank you! Boy do I miss being able to sit inside with a coffee, cake and canines calling out to be shot wide open in the low light.

I urge OP to get protective filter and don't use lens without it. Old Leitz glass is extremely soft. Even special cleaning tissue will leave cleaning marks.
If I remember correct from my use of this lens, third party adapters for normal filters were available.

Muted colors and a lot more details in BW is common for any un-coated lens if it is as in OP described condition.

How kind of you to say so. Rural Virginia. For some reason I decided only to take a Summitar with me on my hebdomadal excursion.

Silly Poor trait with Summitar and, I should think, HP5+ in D-76.

Helen, LC, and Charles, you've exquisitely shown why I didn't hesitate to order a Summitar ('51, 6 blade, coated) the other day. I also ordered the adapter for 39mm so it can share filters with the rest of the gang. Looking forward to giving it a workout soon.
