Neither lens is really filter friendly. The 40.5 mm filters tend to vignette. I would recommend getting a step-up ring and using a 46 mm or larger filter. 40.5 mm fiter with 46 mm glass and front rings were what Contax used on the 35 Biogon and 50/1.5 Sonnar in the late 30's. If you want a hood the Contax G 28 mm Biogon hood works, but you could also buy a junk filter and knock the glass out for a lot less money.

I met a German chap in Austria, umpteen years ago, who was using one of those amazing Contarex Hologon cameras. He had a home made lens hood that covered the whole camera with a slot for a cinema size gelatin filter, so he could see the effect of the filter in the finder. The whole thing was attached in place of the camera handle, with a cable release in a press camera handle on the side.

Heath-Robinson and Rube Goldberg would have been hard pressed to invent better but he claimed it worked well :)

Johank,

The 46 mm filter with the extra (junk) ring would work for the 21 mm. I've used my 21 mm Biogon since 1967 and never had a lens hood on it. This is despite the fact that I always use lens hoods on all other lenses.

Ronald,

Try putting the filter in boiling water for about 5 min. Be careful handling as both the ring and glass will retain a a lot of heat. With a junk filter you could also just break the glass out.
