I've just acquired one with a Xenar lens. Everything works, excep0t the rangefinder which is a black hole. Has anyone any knowlege of a repair job on these.

I had a similar problem with a Yashica, and it rattled when shook: removing the rangefinder housing revealed that the mirror had become un-glued from its mount.
 
I have twenty or so of these beasties - can't help it, I love 'em. But I have not had success getting the top off without destroying the thing, so can't help you with fixing the rangefinder, I'm afraid. I can tell you all about 'em, but can't really fix 'em. Very sorry, perhaps some repair person out there will tackle a Paxette?
