I guess I know the answer for this one, but won't hurt to ask...
The double image doesn't align perfectly throughout the patch - if its precisely focused on the left side of the patch, it will be off one right side.
Is this normal? I can't see how I could've done that by working on the camera.
I guess the middle of the patch should be used. Or to be more precise - the same portion, which aligns fine at infinity, right?

is everything in the patch at the same distance? If the patch contains things at different distances then of course they all wont be together.

C'mon, give me a little credit, will ya? I might be dumb, but I'm not that dumb
There's what I'm talking about - say I focus on a pole using the left portion of the yellow patch. It's perfectly aligned. Then I very slightly rotate the camera, so the pole is now in the right portion of the patch. And it is NOT aligned there. Back to the left side - still, all good.
