I bought a cheap-and-cheerful Sony A290 purely to use a 1997 Minolta 35-70 and 70-210 beer can zoom.
it was a bit of a nostalgia kick as I loved my SRTs , XD7 , 70001 and finally simple point and shoot silver 505si 35-70 which was the perfect companion for a rare trip to Toronto .

I had no preference for Sony over my Pentax K10D bought for manual lenses , which would be the ideal system to upgrade , but i craved use that 35/70 cropped to a perfect 52/105 .
It's probably an ASD continuity thing !

However , i loved the colour rendition , the extreme simplicity and yes, the handling [?! ]of such a stripped down camera with lukewarm reviews .
The rendition similar to my much loved first dead end 4/3rds system Leica Digilux 3 / L1 twins .

i know that the Sony CCD sensor is a hand me down , but one reviewer was attracted to that colour an monochrome ' depth 'in the A350.

I added Sony A35 with 35mm f1.8 which is sufficient for me for anything over ISO 200 , but I am ambivalent over the EVF .

Then I found an irresistible , near mint A390/kit lens/Tamron @ £100 with it's 'waist level finder ' and live view which seems to complete the Minolta AF mount trilogy .
I added a £20 Minolta 35-70 f4 beer can which ups the weight to something seemingly more substantial !!
one way of faking it , I guess !

i seem to have found myself acquiring another pair of 'twins' but ASD loves a spare !! LOL.

Another dead end of course , but I shall be watching for Minolta AF lenses at give away prices !

This is entirely unexpected as there are far better cameras out there - i could have afforded a decent Nikon of Canon , or a later Pentax.

Maybe I will switch in time , but neither the Sony's or the Dig 3/L1 twins are not going anywhere !!

Thanks for the support , but i don't find the Samsung NX 1000 fun to use - convenient / cheap @ £150 with extra 24mm equivalent , but seems more like white goods ....

Good to see you found one that is to your liking! Rumour has it there will be a new Sony A-mount camera coming this month, so, there might still be a future :)
