They're not colloquial expressions, João.

We say a "head of lettuce" like we say a "loaf of bread." It's proper English.

"Cabbage head" would just be playing with the language, not an established expression.

Applying "head of lettuce" or "cabbage head" to the photo is simply playing on the content.

(From one who lived in Portugal, and Brazil, many years ago. I would love to get over there and see it again.)
