Sverdlovsk 4, calibration issue

hello RFF,

here's a question regarding calibration of a Sverdlovsk - 4 meter. any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated (i have checked the previous posts on RFF regarding this meter, but didn't find anyone dealing with the same topic)

i bought the meter in a NOS condition a couple of months ago. in general it seems to be working - it's readings comply with results from a meter app on an iPhone (although they don't comply with readings of my OM-1n, please see below)

what makes me doubtful about the device is that when trying to calibrate it (according to the directions in it's manual from a.klomp's page), instead of the LED going off at the combination of 1/250 & f/8 (as it should according to the manual), then the dial has to be rolled all the way till about 8" mark for the LED to extinguish, which seems a way too large difference to be neglected. i have tried various battery combinations - 3 x LR44, SAFT LS14250. all give the same results.


the idea is to use this meter with a Lubitel camera that doesn't have a meter. up till now i have been metering for the Lubitel through an OM-1n, which gives good results but is not at all handy. in comparison, when metering for Lubitel with the Sverdlovsk, the readings tend to give underexposed results.


one of the quickest ways of course would be to just check the difference between Sverdlovsk's results and those of OM and always adjust the results accordingly, but that seems a bit awkward - one doesn't wand a meeter to constantly readjust it's results. by it's appearance and also in accordance to quite many of the satisfied reviews it has got, this seems to be a very usable device. so, i'd be very happy to get it properly going.


excuses, if this appears like an all-over-the-place post. as mentioned at the top - any hints towards a solution will be greatly appreciated.

I recently calibrated a Sverdlovsk-2 and it uses only 2 trimmers for the metering (no battery check calibration). If the function of converting light to LED switching voltage is V = a + b*EV, then the 2 trimmers in Sverdlovsk-2 are the 2 constants 'a' and 'b'. 'a' controls constant offset (most significant in low light), and 'b' controls the function steepness, however changing one always affects the other.
