I'm wondering how easy or hard it is to swap out an M6 viewfinder. Also, how easy it is (and how much it costs) to get another viewfinder.

Is it something a user can do with just a few tools?

Are the viewfinders expensive? I don't recall seeing them on the 'bay.

Apologies in advance if this subject has been done to death.

I don' t how easy it is to swap out a M6 viewfinder but have seen them here in Japan on Yahoo auctions sometimes. They were in the range of 400 ~ 500$. In Japan everything labeled "Leica" is usually more expensive than in the USA, so I would expect them to be cheaper.

The answer depends on where you get the new RF. Leica will not sell you a new RF without swapping out the old one - this was US$900 a few years ago when the a-la-carte program started (it's more now) and you won't get the old one back. Contact Leica for the price today.

OTOH, if you get a new RF through the Leica parts seller on eBay ("tonaya"), it will cost you around $600. But then you would need to get it installed and adjusted.

Whatever you're trying to do it would be easier (and less expensive) to sell your camera and buy another one with the finder you want.

Answer: Sherry Krauter @ Golden Touch.

if your going to pony up this kind of bucks, why not get it done right the first time? Sherry has surprisingly good prices.
