Australia/New Zealand Sydney Australia RFF Meet Up

For Bob. Some shots from Nov 2013. I normally play with my son but we both took a season off the year.

Smashed through cover :)

Hello all,

We are home now after a wonderful trip. Many thanks to all of you for meeting with me and Louise in Sydney-it was a highlight of the trip. Thank you for theses phots-theyThese bring back memories of a special time: making the world small by sharing interests a mere 13 hour plane ride from our home here in California. Louise and i were able to meet up with Peter and Clay later on in the trip, and apologies to Lynn for being unable to meet him while we were (for a short time) in Manley. I wish we were closer so we could see all of you more regularly. But until the next time, we wish you good health and promise us you will meet up regularly to share and enjoy together. And to my new cricket pal John: the final was heartbreaking to this Blackcaps fan!

thanks Bob, it was great to meet you and Louise. Maybe you can explain the rules of cricket to me one day :)
PS feel welcome to post any pictures of your trip!

G'day Bob,

It was so nice meeting you and Louise and I really enjoyed the extra afternoon we had together. That's the thing when you ring Peter for a cup of coffee, you never know quite how it's going to turn out. Last time I ended up with two cameras and a lens :D.

The Blackcaps may have lost the battle but they won the war. They showed grace and good sportsmanship in both victory and defeat. I was ashamed of the way the Australian team behaved and can only hope the English recover to flog them in the Ashes.

Keep in touch.

cheers,
clay

Clay, that's a treasonous thing to say about our team! I have to agree though they are behaving like they did in the Steve Waugh days, like they were born to it. Not edifying.

Bob, I think I can speak for everyone at our meetup that you and Louise were great visitors and a tremendous pleasure to show off our town to.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip here Bob! I think everyone has shared the same thoughts I had about meeting you. I do hope you'd make the trip back down to the opposite end of the world (or should I make the trip up there one day soon)

Oh, and hopefully we'll be swapping around emails (or dare I say, since we're both fountain pen aficionado, go down the slippery slope of the lost art of letter writing)

On a side note to help fuel the Sydney G.A.S, a worn Contax 1 rangefinder with 5cm f2 collapsible sonnar just came into Georges cameras if anyone is into collecting...

Here's the only reasonably decent one of mine from the last meet up. Sorry Pete you got swallowed by the bokeh :D.

Has anyone been to The photograph and Australia exhibition? It's only on until 8th June. Perhaps we could have another get together. The Gallery is open on Wednesday night but unfortunately I'm tied up with my son's football training then.

cheers,
clay

Clay, that's a hilarious photo of me. Me being bokeh bombed saves it I say.
A meet up for the exhibition is a great idea. I haven't seen it yet. What do people say? Weekday afternoon or weekend?

Just a heads up, The Ultimo Camera Markets is on Sunday the 26th (so 2 weeks time) if anyone feels like checking it out.

Won't be there myself since I have to work but I'm sure there will be a few here who may be interested.

G'day Ong

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't been before and am really keen to go this time. It would be great to meet up. Anyone else?

cheers

**edit** Where can I find info on this? It doesn't appear to be listed online...

Ah sorry, they seem to be pretty slack (see can't be bothered) with the online side of things, but doing it the old school way of flyers at "some" camera stores

From experience there's alot of interesting things to look at and some interesting memorabilia at times. (Found a photo album from a Wehrmacht Medical division a few years back). Just the usual buyer beware, know how much things are worth and what condition they are in. It's also a good place to pick up expired film from time to time or little accessories.

Personally I won't be able to get to see it since I'm working until 2pm, but I'll be more than happy to catch up with everyone after.

Meeting on Camera market day is a great idea. I'm in if the timing works out. Thing is I need to be at the airport at about 10.30-11.00 am to pick up my daughter. I was planning to go to the market at 10.00 when it opens, spend 15-20 minutes and then rush to the airport. After that it would be bad form, I guess, to abandon my daughter and rush back to the market, as she would have been away for 5 weeks. You can see I'm a caring dad.
Anyway, if people want to meet later in the afternoon, like after 2 pm, which sounds like it would suit Ong, then I'll be able to join you then.
