T3 ot T2? It's a question

I'm considering buying a used T2 or T3. I've search online about these two cameras...seems both have superb lens. Could any one give me some suggestions on which one to choose? Any idea of the difference betweens the two lens? Is it worth spending 200 bucks more to buy a T3 instead of T2?

There was a post on Photo.net recently comparing the T2, T3 and Minilux, and the poster suggested they could see a quality difference between the three, and of course the T3 (most expensive) was the best... how much of a difference it was (considering that all three are no slouch) is relative.

Used the t3 for a couple rolls of film much nicer camera, not as much shutter lag...filters availible...expensive as hell...
I would go for a nice T1 if I could find it...no shutter lag and as posted in previous threads the lens is sprinkled with magic ferry dust!

Seems T3 has a bit higher resolution...but it may be still hard to tell without 100% crop. is their any other differences between the two lens, like the color, the tones etc.

Skip the Yashica T4, too. Very sharp, but the shutter/AF lag is longer than a lot of digital cameras (even pre-focused).

I just got the T2. It looks gorgeous. After using it I will post some photos here.
I am being practical here. My T2 arrived in like new condition for $172 shipped. Can you get a T3 or T for this amount? I doubt it. The T2 is not a piece of crap, but a beautifully built camera with a sharp lens. Hence, getting such a camera for less than $200 makes it a bargain.

shutter lag= amount of time between pressing the shutter and the camera taking the picture...and yes I pre-focus using the press the shutter half way down and then once focussed press the shutter the rest of the way.

I had the black one...build quality was top notch and the pictures were super sharp just didnt like the lag...

FWIW a few years ago I was trying to choose between the Minilux and the T2. I finally chose the Minilux, mostly because it had less light falloff in the corners and less shutter lag (zero lag if prefocussed). If you prefer a Sonnar, the Rollei 35 S or SE has a 40mm Sonnar which really kicks @$$, but the Rolleis have no automation. I know very little about the T3.

I was the one who originally posted the lens comparisons of the three Sonnars (also posted on this forum a few days ago) and can say the T2 and T3 both have their advantages, however, you're more likely to have more "keepers" with T3 because of it's improved focus accuracy, greater capability and much closer minimum focus. If money's a big object though, the T2 is the one to consider. One nice thing about the T2 is the RF assisted MF distance scale which has allowed me to add a DOF scale for f/5.6, f/11 and f/16 to the top plate of the camera.

beagle: I noted a comment here about reduced prices at KEH when they have many similar items listed. I noticed the T2. They still have several examples of it. They had it rated as "bargain", and it arrived here in like new condition.

I have a T3 that I hardly use any more and would sell it if there is any interest. It is in excellent condition. I went mainly digital shortly after I bought it. I have the original box and manual.

The lens is exceptional.

One thing I do not like is that there is no hotshoe. I sometimes shoot at parties and the built-in flash causes red eye and is weak.

I shot part of a wedding using a Vivitar off camera with a peanut slave and used the built-in to trigger it. orked well although It would have worked even better if I had three hands.

I also have a Rollei 35 that I still sometimes use. It is one of the original German models and is a bit dinged up.

I have a T2 and love it. The sharpness, saturation and contrast kicks butt over my Olympus Epic Stylus 35 and my Yashica T4 (which I sold for over $200 a few years ago). It does suffer from some fall-off mostly only visible in sky shots and such and mostly if wider open. In terms of resolution vs. the T3 I seriously doubt you'd ever notice a difference in real life unless you shot air force lens charts.

All that said it is not my favorite camera for street shooting as it's almost too contrasty and sharp for the look I like in B&W street work (for color and slide it's great). I have a few other "classic" P&S cameras I use for this too. My favorite (for lens) being a Rollei 35T with Tessar lens. Crisp and sharp but a bit toned down on contrast and has beautiful character for B&W work. Others that I find EXCELLENT and almost as sharp as the Sonnar on the T2 are a Vivitar 35EM (a real sleeper) and a recently acquired (for $20!) Olympus XA. The XA is so much better than the Epic as to be laughable. Lately I've been using the XA mostly and really like it. The Epic I've given to my 5-year old son.
