Post #121 in this thread:
I can't speak for other mods, but I'll be glad to add a lens or film. I've already added some lenses that I know will be used in gallery uploads, but there are *many* not yet listed.
It needs to be done in a consistent fashion. Just PM me with the details and I'll get it done.

Yoou should get emails with each comment
I never do anything that generates one more email. I like the new gallery very much. I do agree that the old gallery's ordering of our own gallery to put the most recently commented on photo at the top of the list was a neat trick.
I lke the format of the new gallery and the increased size, and the larger look image generated by clicking on the single image etc etc. Uploading is more logical. And certainly gathering my picks for the Gallery Picks for the Week was a breeze this week.
Congratulations and keep tweaking.
Thanks.

Thanks, that's good to know. Still, I think I would still appreciate the gallery being able to tell me if I have gallery comments, instead of having to check my email. It's when I'm checking the gallery that I'd like to know.
+1. That feature (in the old gallery) was very useful.

In the gallery search - advanced search - can we please have a box that allows us to select only images from rangefinder cameras for viewing. I know that would require additions in the camera database to tag all true RF cameras as such, but there aren't that many of them! Perhaps tags for micro 4/3, SLR, TLR, Medium-format, film, digital, etc also.
Perhaps this makes me a luddite, but I think there's still a few of us who would like to look at images from rangefinder cameras (exclusively at times).

You can still do this with the new gallery, and also display all comments you have left for others. It's on the Comments menu...Thanks, that's good to know. I am amazed VC Ultron 35/1.7 (LTM type) is not in the list.
A best seller, plenty of copies currently operating.
And what about the refined Carl Zeiss Jena Werra/Werramatic ?

I did find that after I posted, and I've been using it.
Overall, I love the new functionality of the gallery, but I regret the loss of some of the info that used to be more immediately accessible, and the organization of where to find those things.
When the top link bar has "Gallery Home", "Gallery", and "Gallery Search" menus, it feels like there's some odd organization or taxonomy. There's "My Menu" and "<username>" there as well, which, while easy enough to explore to figure out, seems redundant at first glance.
There's a mix of links and menus at the top, some top-level menus seem more appropriate as submenus of others, links named one thing take you to a page with a different name... all of it ends up filling me with a bit of uncertainty of where to go for things, and forgetting where that menu option was, the last time I used it.
I'm sensitive to these things, since I do UI work in my job; and I'm a jerk, for the most part. User Pain is something we measure with numbers, when it comes to UI; yes, "User Pain" is very much a First World Problem, I know that, but when it comes to information architecture, websites succeed or fail based on things as small as tiny differences in User Pain.
Thanks... The Werramatic Tessar was already on the list, and I just added the Ultron.I am amazed VC Ultron 35/1.7 (LTM type) is not in the list.

It Is What It Is
Yes Doug , but thats not what I was talking about. I meant can a command be typed in that would compile a group of photos in this gallery that could put together a window of Pictures that were taken using a given lens. Something like "90/4" or '35mm ltm' I'm just barely computer literate. I have not loaded any pictures my self because of this. So, can this program do such a thing?Well, Red Robin, I had in mind a way to do that, theoretically... Tried it. And right now I have two windows open on the Gallery, one showing J-3 pics and one showing Canon 1.5/50 pics. I'm sure you could do the same.![]()
Hi Red - Yes, I understood what you meant, and my reply skipped over the details. If you go to the Gallery and look at the Gallery menubar you'll see there's one menu tab called "Lens Browser" which is very simple... clicking on that menu item displays a single pop-up sub-menu showing every specific lens in the lens database. Scroll up and down, choose the lens you wish to search for, and all photos recorded as using that lens will be displayed. Try it, it's easyYes Doug , but thats not what I was talking about. Now if you open a new browser window on the Gallery, you can repeat this search, but for a different lens. Then you'll have two browser windows that you can place side by side showing photos shot with those two lenses for comparison. You can scroll through the photos in each window to look for suitable comparisons.
Alternatively, just to the left of "Lens Browser" on the Gallery menubar, there is another tab called "Gallery Search" which has 9 different photo characteristics that you may search for, including the exact lens, or just the focal length, or just the aperture, etc. You can search for just one characteristic, or if you wish, more than one at the same time. For instance, you could choose 90 in Focal Length, and 2.8 in Aperture, and you'd get a look at all photos recorded as using a 90mm and shot at f/2.8.
In this there are no commands to type in, just menu items to select, very easy.
To the left of "Gallery Search" on the Gallery menubar, there is another item called simply "Gallery". Clicking this displays a list of things you can do in the Gallery divided into two sections. The first item in the second section is "Upload Photos"... If you choose this a window appears with easy instructions and commands for you to upload one or more photos. If your photos are digital and still have the EXIF data attached then the Gallery will use that data to fill in some of the details about your gear used for the pic, except for the specific lens which you should add using the pop-up menu list. If there's no EXIF you can fill in the blanks easily enough.
If you upload a picture and then have regrets, like it was the wrong pic or whatever, you can click the red-x garbage can icon near your pic or its thumbnail and confirm it's to be deleted.
I encourage you to poke around the Gallery and see what's there. You can't do any harm, while you can discover and enjoy!

Perhaps an additional tag in the camera DB would do the job. After this you can filter for camera "type". I'm sure the exact definition for a camera type will start a new discussion here...
(D)RF, (D)SLR, TLR, MILC... and should we also differentiate on recording formats (film types, sensor sizes)? Or viewfinder types? Don't get me wrong: I'm interested too. But I fear we are putting already enough effort and details in a first upgrade. Just MHO.

what?
I like the new gallery very much. I have only one complaint, and if this was already commented above, sorry (I did not read all the postings above).
My complaint: when I am in the gallery and click up top on the HOME button, it opens a new tab (Google Chromium). I wish it didn't do that.
