Take a walk.

In our hemisphere, the Equilux has passed and cooler weather is now upon us. Leaves are changing color and there is the fragrance all about us reminding us the seasons are changing.

New seasons, new beginnings.

But to enjoy the experience, get outdoors for a change if you are not usually inclined to do so. A camera is not needed for every walk. Just take a walk and see how many sensory experiences you can find. Immerse yourself.

It does wonders for us.😀

Oh, and if you do take pictures on your walk, how about posting them on this thread?
 
The leaves on the cherry blossom trees along the Ookagawa river in Yokohama are starting to change colors.

@ dave lackey: A very good idea. I don't get to do that often enough.

@ Yokosuka Mike: Nice photo. That sure is a shallow dof. But it all works out well. It is actually kind of relaxing to me.

I always tried to keep some walking daily. 10-15 mins from the train to campus were really brisk. Some idle hours in the afternoon I could take strolls around the city. Nowadays I've toned down the metaphysical walking a bit, for sure fall will bring in more.

A friend of mine walks at night in the near fields and hills, or even the town with all its nocturnal quietness. It is a sensational feeling, and I recommend it. Night time is quite different sensorial wise, and strange until you get used in the beginning, specially out of the town -few animal threats here, humans may be instead-.

Cycling is also a good way to extend this walking, at a faster pace and longer distance.

Last weekend a friend of mine was quite eager to go cycling down the coast 14mi to a lighthouse on rocky cliffs and a small cove there is.
Career idleness takes me to a rather swinging mood, and I was in a rut using my MF. I took the camera for a few frames. The forecast for the afternoon was cloudy, but thankfully they did not nail that one. Wonderful sun and afternoon light, beautiful sights.
I could take a few frames around the cliffs and cove, it was so refreshing to shoot. Of course, with the warm (24ºC) water, we took a dip into sea.

BTW, that latin phrase I got it from an article. Google it and it may come up in the AOM blog, it was a good read and I will re read it soon after seeing this thread.

There is something "funny" Dave about this photo, which was taken a few years ago. For various family reasons we could only have one week holiday that year, and we could not go too far from our town.

We headed to Como's Lake which of course is a beautiful place and about one hour driving from where we lived. But the weather was not so...cooperative with us and when I took this photo was one of the very few moments in which, rain or no rain we decide to walk out from the hotel anyway! Yes, it was a very wet week🙁

So it became obvious to take this photo....

I love to take a walk, I actually try to walk everywhere. I typically walk my daughter to school and then walk or run to work, depending on how I feel. It is a great way to get around, especially running - fast enough to get a long way, slow enough to notice.

When I walk, sometimes I carry my camera, sometimes not. It depends on both mood and weather.

Speaking of weather, it's starting to get hot and humid again here, so I'll have to walk slower or take a shower at work.

Robert, thank you for the story.. It is quite nice to think of the context behind the image. Strangely, it is a simple photography but a point of view that one is familiar with but not very common in photography. The color and slightly OOF areas are wonderful.

I love Latin. Thanks for that link reference. It seems that if one wants to take better photographs, one should walk as it does wonders for creativity!

That blog looks up to the thoughts of Classics up to the GI generation, being set rather as a homage and has heaps of interesting and relevant content.

Reread it after a long time and been finding a few references I skipped.

The few friends I have in town we usually meet for a stroll, and I found out that a special part of the relation is down to talk and walk.

I am living in a Seaside town and fall has not arrived yet. Warm ~75ºF weather with a similar mild sea temperature. Bathing into sea is also wonderful and -to me- just being in the water and floating around a bit has a profound soothing effect. Nevertheless, I have added the activity to my staple of well living standards.

EDIT: Tapatalk lets me upload images so here is a snap I took while bathing at sea (iphone 6, mildly edited in VSCO). Took the bike and rode 12mi to a cliff and cove area west of town. Cycling is not as introspective but it covers longer distances. The morning was heavily overcast but upon passing this cove, sun came out and I could not resist to bathe.

Ah, good things going on here. I love the photos and I am encouraged to see folks enjoying walking.

Up until 2010, I walked five miles everyday and rode my Trek bicycle as much as possible later in the day. Since my bride had the first stroke, and subsequent operations and such, walking has become a daily requirement to get out of her wheelchair and each time she has done just that. After more than 400 therapies, we are on our own now.. the last eight weeks. But sometimes therapy has bad days. This morning, as we crossed the street at the entrance to the park, she was distracted by an on-coming car and missed her step... She went down with me holding onto her right arm and guiding her gently down to the sidewalk. No injuries except a sore arm and feelings.

So, we found our usual bench to rest awhile and made it back home. No real damage but her cognition is taking on negative energy so tomorrow we will walk again with a gait belt and get her confidence back.

It is amazing how the body can overcome negatives.🙂
 
Sorry for the accident. For sure you'll recover from it and will enjoy more lovely walks!
