Take up spool

Does anyone know where to get a"Film Take up spool" for a Zorki 4 also would like to get a new shutter speed dial for this camera as the painted # are very light and in 2 spots gone.
If not available has anyone found a way of making the dial ( small pen, stamps etc.)

I have been hunting for a shutter speed dial for a Zorki-4 as well. I sent some emails out to a few of the FSU sellers (including Alex) as well as to Oleg who does the FSU repairs and I have gotten generally the same response from all of them..."The original paint wears off. It is not a part that we can replace. Scratch the numbers into the metal with an awl." If you are lucky enough to find a source, please let me know. Thanks.

For the take up spool, before you buy one, try using one out of an Ilford film. I've heard the Kodak film ones work too, but I don't know. This is a well-known trick in Zeiss circles, where the genuine Zeiss take up spool always falls out and gets lost. I have 1 Zeiss and 3 Ilford take up spools in my various Contax / Contaflexes....there's no difference, functionality wise, except that the Ilford ones are nix and the Zeiss ones run about $20, when you can find them, that is.........

I have a metal FED spool laying about. I only know it is the same for FED 2, 5 and 6.

The shutter dials on the Zorki 4 were engraved from 1956 until the early 1960s. They went to paint instead of engraving about the same time they quite using vulcanite for the covering. It all depended on how many parts were left in the bins. You'll find some cameras with and engraved name but painted dial and vice versa.

Have purchased 2 of the take up spools from Alex-photo, no speed dials, will keep looking and let everyone know if I find out who may have them.
For the time being I used Dymo label maker with There clear plastic tape and set for the smallest size which is 1/16 inch high and after putting them on the dial I covered them with clear nail polish.
So far they look good and are holding up well.
