I would liike to chime in with those here who do both: pictures of other subjects with family in tow, and pictures of the family.
I'm also known to stay behind or rush off sideways during city strolls, so my family has gotten used to it. Sometimes I overdo it in their opinion, but that doesn't happen very often.
When I really need time to myself for taking pictures, I get out alone for an hour or two. I also use the commute to work, I'm basically never without a camera these days...
