Hi guys,

Im new here and new to rangefinders. Only last week i made a decision to part with all my Digital equipment and go completely film.
I have been looking at what people have in there bags and notice most take a note book of some sort.

So my question is.. Whats everyone been writing down while out on a shoot?

I write down the date and location and what I shot there. I've been doing my fine art and documentary photography for nearly 20 years now, and because I did not keep notes in my earlier days, I simply cannot remember when I shot many of my photos, and some I cannot remember the location! Over the years, my work has become more documentary in nature, and so good notes have become even more important as my photography has merged more and more with my other great love: history (I have an MA in history, and more than 2000 books in my personal library).

Some photographers write down things like the actual shutter speed and aperture used. I don't, that info is not really useful after you've made the photo unless you're testing a camera to be sure everything works right (if you've just bought an old one, or just had one repaired, for example).

Ideas for articles. Occasionally, names of places. Where I was on what day. NEVER technical details (camera, lens, film, exposure data...), for exactly the reasons Chris gives.

Cheers,

R.
