Taking photos of cameras

I usually do handheld with whatever digital camera I have handy, and a flash pointing up the ceiling. Fast and simple. If I need to get extra close I'll use a snap camera or even just my iphone 🙂

for backgrounds, a piece of paper or a table cloth, or any ole clean surface.

And sometimes if I'm doing this early enough, I just use available day light:

I used a tripod, a sheet of white paper, overcast sky softbox and a Nikon D3100 with 1.4/58mm. ...

Though care should be taken to make sure nothing is in the room in a position to reflect from the subject, including your clothes, that has any color other than white, gray (or "grey" if in England), or black. The orangish-yellow reflecting in the polished ring around the shutter release could be mistaken for brassing that isn't really there.

What a delicious looking image. It just overflows with Leica "mystique". When I'm selling stuff on Craigslist I usually take shots with my K20D and DA35 lens which has a very nice macro feature. Setups are usually pretty quick and dirty but once in a while I get creative. When I sold my little Bessa "L" I took a couple pics with my Digilux 2...

I was taught to purposely over expose. My best shots are about 2/3 to 1 full stop over. I use a tripod, a white sheet of card-stock and my Canon SX120is set to Manual (aperture and shutter speed) Macro, self timer to help eliminate camera shake.

I have a 5-bulb chandelier above my dining room table, so just a dropcloth and my Galaxy S3 did the last sales shots I took.

I found if I had to hassle with setting up the dining room as a product studio I didn't take pictures of gear to sell!

Good to "overexpose" if your background is white and you doing "matrix metering" or what you would call it.

I have tried to photo my EOS 3 and lens for the classifieds...
I have used a neat spot of our kitchen where grey stone meets a red painted wall.

I have also used my IXUS 70:
- self timer and the camera was stand alone on the grey base
- macro
- white balance correction for color matching
- there were natural light from a window just behind me and the reflection on the lens was really helpful for the description of the front element's condition.
