No more ebay auctions! Never ever again! :bang:

For grins I just bid on a nice v. 3 35mm Summicron, black with hood & all the caps. I placed my bid with 14 seconds left. Two more bids came in after mine. The winner with 2 seconds left. Outbid by $47.23.

Nope. Noway. Not bidding again. Ever.

Anyone else care to join me in taking The Pledge & The Cure?

Cheers, y'all. 🙂

I agree joe. Had I found RFF sooner I could have saved myself a lot of grief and money.

Yup. 14 seconds is like forever.

Hello all I am an ebay addict too. I had one camera, then I discovered ebay, now I have around 30. I now have friends giving me cameras.

This, coming from the guy who told me to get an M2 off ebay?

I bought a CLA'd M2 with a Summicron 50/2 Collapsible not 3 hours ago. Oops 😱

crasis is on the way...what lens next? maybe a 90? or a nice 25 wide?

buhahahahahha!!

joe😉

Well, I'm going to try the 50 collapsible for a while. If it's too low contrast and has too much of an old feel to it, I'll sell it and get a .. I don't know. Lens..

but that's it! I swear!

A couple of funny anecdotes from my local camera store...
1. Customer walks in with Bronica SQ body, standard lens and 220 back proudly purchased off ebay for $800 U.S. plus shipping. Camera has obvious signs of corrosion and rough use. Customer needs to spend additional $150 CDN for 120 back. Camera store has in stock exact same system but with 120 back included in excellent shape with 30 day warranty for $800 CDN.
2. Customer phones in looking for a good deal on used Mamiya 7 with standard lens. Store has one in excellent shape selling for $2000 CDN. Customer thinks it's too expensive. A few months later customer gets same system off ebay for $1800 U.S. plus shipping. Shows to sales guy at store. Sales guy points out focus is way off and camera probably dropped.
I think I'll stick with camera shops...

huh?

huh?

Venchka,

Was the lens worth $48 more than your highest bid? If so, you should have entered that on your first bid, and you would have won it. Don't let other folks distract what you're trying to buy, and what you want to pay for it.

I have bought some nice cameras off ebay cheap and I have some broke stuff, but I knew it was broke when I bidded. I stick to the sub 50 dollar range. Once I bought a Minolta CL for 400 didn't like it sold for 650 and bought a panosonic digital.

Crasis, I've been craving a coll. Summicron. If you don't like the looks of it, let me know...of course, with all this talk about eBay, I might "collapse" and buy one of my own by then, too.

I thought the prices for the coll. had bottomed out recently, but now they seem to be shifting up again. Gotta make money faster.

Or, is that "make faster money"? Hmm.

Cheers,

It's about time for an ebay break. The used gear shops are looking better all the time. Just got a 'mint' Contax T from ebay that was actually used but not abused with a broken flash battery door and fungus in the finder windows. I agree with Photodave, at a shop for a few more bucks you can handle the merchandise before you buy and usually get a guarantee, makes for a less stressful purchase, don't you think?

I would be ecstatic if I could do the same but there are no camera shops remotely close to me...
I have been able to (mostly) decide on what I'm willing to spend and let the auctions play out. The one time I raised my max bid, I still lost and when it was over I looked at what I had bid up to and said something rude to myself because I realized how much I had gone over my budget.
One other thing I look at now is when the auction ends and I try to only bid on those auctions that end while I'm at work(away from the computer). When I get home and check my email, I then find out yes or no about whatever it was that I wanted.
Works pretty well for me so far.

Impatience is a virtue. I don't even have it yet and these things are notorious for having haze/fogging, scratches up the wazoo, etc. The thing is, even if I like it, I don't know that I'd have use for a collapsible. I'd rather have a rigid cron.

Ah well, selling it will give me some money towards a 50 rigid cron, but maybe I'll end up loving the 50 collapsible cron. Who knows!

Auctions! No more auctions! I did point you to a M2 with a decent Buy It Now price suitable for painting & recovering. Just trying to help our frozen cousins to the North.😀

Not to me and my budget and other similar lenses that had sold recently.

I may find something with a decent Buy It Now price or, like some have said, stick to this Forum or camera shops.

According to my other thread about my Canon 35mm 1:2.8 lens, I'm not buying a 35mm Summicron right now.

That doesn't rule out a faster 35mm lens.
