Tarriffs coming soon in US

Also, lets remember that source for used Leica are New Leica (they don't come out of thin air), so price increase will affect somehow. That is if you are interested on a currently produced Leica. Otherwise, no effect at all.

If new prices go up, then often used prices increase also. So, if a typical used price for camera ‘X’, mint condition, low shutter count is .7X of new price, then when new price goes up, so does used price.

I agree. The cost of a CL body in January will be over $3k and paired with the 23 Cron I own the price increases adds up to be $600.00 if I had to replace this camera and lens. Not so little amount of money.

Pretty much this price increase inflates the price I could command on my used Cl and 23 Cron. My guess is that I could add a few hundred dollars to my price, and of course this all depends on condition.

This mostly effects products that are currently being offered though that are still are being manufactured, sold and are readily available.

Not so sure how these price increases will effect used prices on other gear that no longer is being made. My guess is no inflation of price for gear that is no longer being made.

Basically only a "premium" on lenses and bodies of current manufacture. The exceptions are the SL2 and the Q2 bodies as reported by Leica Rumors.

Leica is going to price itself out of the market..
I was going to buy an expensive lens soon..
That is on hold now until the tariffs cease...
Why the hell would someone buy a 5K lens...for a lot more after the 1st of Jan....
When the tariffs can get pulled at any time..and have the lens instantly devalue..

Emile,

I bought an APO Cron-L very recently. Currently there seems to already have been a $600.00 price increase on this lens and it is not yet January. I'm watching closely if in January if there is yet another incease on top of this one.

I was very-very lucky to buy this lens well before the Leica Rumors announcement.

In the SL Forums there was a report of Adorama gouging an even bigger price increase and after this increase was reported it was eventually moderated to the present increase. The fact remains that even though it is not yet January that there already has been a price increase on the APO Cron.

I do think you do make a point: if tariffs can go as easy as they come then there is a great amount of volatility induced at this point and like you indicated a good amount of risk.

Meanwhile I can say this: the APO 35 Cron is a remarkable lens and is worth the expense. Also who else is making APO wides?

I'm just glad that the SL2 does not have a price increase.

The price increase is shared 10% by the consumer and 15% by Leica AG. My guess is that this hurts Leica more than it hurts U.S. consumers.

Cal,
I agree with your statement.
Probably best thing for Leica to do if they think the tariffs are going to be permanent is to do what Rolex does..and severely limit supply..which may well be on its way..if not in effect already..keeping prices sky high..
This of course will turn a lot of people off to the brand..except the ones that really want to be customers..
IMO...it's not a good time to buy Leica stuff..
Glad I have 90% of what I need already..
Would like a super fast F1.4 WA though and was planning to buy the 24mm....
But its going to have to wait..

Leica Prices Increasing January 1, 2020

Beginning January 1, 2020, prices for most Leica Camera products will rise approximately 10 percent, including on many non-optical accessories.

The reason for this increase is that the Office of the United States Trade
Representative imposed a 25 percent tariff on a wide range of products imported from Germany.

(We’re happy to report that the Leica SL2, Q2 and Sport Optics remain
unaffected!)

Leica Camera here in the U.S. has not raised prices for any item that is in stock,
so many products are available now at the pre-tariff price. However, beginning January 1st we will see an increase in prices for many Leica Camera items. These price increases are approximately 10 percent and are spread across many products in order to help Leica Camera absorb the other 15 percent of tariffs imposed.

Here is a list of the affected Cameras and Lenses.

You can read more about the tariff action on the USTR website. It’s complicated; the tariffs are not from out of nowhere – they are a direct result of World Trade Organization arbitration regarding malfeasance by some European Union countries.

Here is the Press Release.

If you have any questions about a specific product or about the price increase in general, please don't hesitate to contact us at 1-800-BUY-LEICA (289-5342) or via email at info@tamarkin.com

Totally OT, I was in Beaumont TX yesterday. Just a motel stop on i10 from Lafayette through to a rainy San Antonio now on a big family road trip vacation. Hello goodbye David /0/ . :)

Sorry for the tariffs...

I like that camera, and I like APSC (as a Fuji fanboy) but at $5000 or so for that combo... I can buy a brand new Fuji medium format GFX-50R with 50mm 3.5. I just can't like APSC that much. Different cameras for different purposes, but my regular Fujis fit the APSC needs sufficiently for me. Still the CL is cool...

Leica prices have been crazy for years and as post here 10% of too much is still too much. I actually challenge anyone here to tell the difference between a Fuji APS-C and a CL taken with the same focal length. Luckily, Zeiss and Voightlander are made in Asia.

I heard this challenge between Leica and Nikon film cameras. I never could. May sell my Leica digital and a few duplicate focal lengths and just shoot with the M2.
