The best I can tell you is that it was introduced in the early 60's and depending on the back could use either 120 roll film or cassettes of 70mm film in cartridges that looked like oversize 35mm cassettes. My guess is the back on the left front is 70mm, the right front is a knob wind 120 that dates back before that model was introduced, the other two are for 120 film and probably don't take 220 which was introduced about 1964.

The largeformatphotography.info forum has Linhof's US distributor, Bob Solomon, actively on it and he answers those questions directly.

You have a nice set-up, especially with all those backs!

The backs are all roll film ... one is for 220 6x7 ... other three are 120 ... one old knob wind 6x6 and two 6x7 are not all contemporary with the camera ... the focusing back is not original to the camera as it has 58mm depth of field matrix attached ... I know the camera was introduced in the early 60s probably 1963 . I would like to know which year the actual body was made. The lenses' S/Ns match the cam S/Ns. so are likely to be original to the camera.

I don't wish to register on the large format forum just to ask one question there ... especially as that forum is specifically for large format and this camera is medium format.

Dunk, you might have to go to that forum. Most "medium format" shooters don't know squat about bellows type press/technical cameras. You're lucky to have a matched set of lenses with the correct matching cams. Would it be out of place to ask what you paid for the outfit? (Please don't say "It was priced at $40 at a yard sale but I talked them down to $25 because the case was a bit scuffed"...)

I paid £1700 for it 11 years ago ... that was with two roll film backs plus a genuine Linhof outfit case. I think the price was a bit on the high side but they sell now for approx. £800 in UK with one lens and one back. The service/repair cost £200. I bought the oufit from a well known Nottingham UK dealer now deceased (Dave Brooks? Brookside Photographic) who was a bit of a crook ... he demonstrated the camera to me but failed to point out the broken baseboard locking button mechanism. I subsequently had words with him the following week about the fault and he went ballistic ... he died of a heart attack a couple of years later.

Dunk, I have a Tech 70 which is 175####,with a 100 f/2.8 Linhof Technikon in a synchro-compur shutter. I purchased mine off of and old photographer, who used it to photograph Pope John`s visit to Australia in 1970. From memory he told me that he purchased it new in 1966 or `67, it came with its original passport and sales brochure. On the back is a print code 6603/11, which usually indicates the printing date = 3mth. 1966, also inside are some prices in Aust. dollars (we went decimal Feb 1966), Press 70=$1771 body,Super Rollex back 120=$362,Xenotar80mmf/2.8 $1230,Camera case= $469. Unfortunatly, I have only the one lens for mine, I hope this has been of some assistance to you, all the best Alan.

A really beautiful camera, and a nice set indeed. I really thought of getting one lately to compliment my Speed Graphic. How does it handle, do you work with it regularly or is too clumsy/ heavy/ awkward to use?

Great kit! Enjoy, Michael

I use mine from time to time, the anatomical grip is great, but, yes it is heavy. The images are stunning,35mm is nice, but there is no substitute for a big 6x7/6x9 neg. Unless you move up to 4x5 and beyond.
