Since the G1 can take almost any lens on the planet, what 200mm lens would be the best fit, ideally it would be small (that would rule out any canon or nikon), cheap (that would rule out leica, contax and zeiss), and high quality...have I ruled out everything. How about some of the older oly or pentax lenses...which ones have a good reputation in that range..
thanks for your help

For my telephotos, I use Olympus Pen lenses...100mm, 150mm, 250mm for effective field of view of 200, 300, 500. They are far smaller than similar lenses for Canikon, etc.

I haven't started trying tele's on the G1 yet. One kit that should be interesting is a 400/560 Telyt set (which should give me 800/1120mm!).
Lenses like the 90f3.5 Apo-Lanthar and even the venerable 135f4.5 Hektor seems to work well. I will do some more trials to with my Nikon SLR lenses and Leica R lenses. The 100 Apo Telyt f2.8 should make a rather good 200 mm macro lens.
I like the whole idea of being able to use a variety of lenses with a simple adapter or two. I am not "switching" to digital - I just enjoy the process of shooting with something different - particularly as it costs less than 8% of a M8-2 or less than 25% of a RD1 - and it is easier to use with a Viso III than either the RD1 or the M8!

And so begins the slippery slope to G1 addiction! 🙂
