You know how everybody who speaks Spanish in the U.S. is from Mexico. And all Italians are in the Mafia. And all loons can't spell. It's all 100% true, you know. 🙄

Once I cancelled my HSBC account, and walked home. Someone from HSBC called up and I was thinking there was something wrong with the my cancellation or my transfer, then they asked me if I was interested in any of their investment products. All in 15 minute.

The next morning around 9am some girl from the same bank called, and asked for the same thing, I just told her that I cancelled my account yesterday and someone called me within 15 minute; and your bank is so doggy that I will never use any of their services for the rest of my life.

HSBC, what a joke.


Insurance companies are worst, they pretent to do survey so they can get a name and a phone number. Most are young people calling up, stating some bous organisations, first they ask your name...

Nowadays, I just say I wouldn't give them a name cause some insurance salespeople will call up and annoy me. They usually hang up. 😉

People don't start off being rude or abuseive, the callers are usually rude or fake a survey, then just as well, let them have it.
 
The problem Frank is that many of them are not doing an unpleasant job to make a living. Most of them are teenagers who don't give a rats ass and are just doing the least amount of work possible. I've had more than a few friends that were telemarketers and they usually TRIED to piss the person off on the phone because they thought it was funny.

I did have one funny experience years ago. It was during the World Series and the kid was from New York. The Yankees were playing and after lecturing him about why was he calling me at TEN PM he goes.. ok.. I'm sorry.. but can I just ask one thing.... do you have the game on?!?!?!?!?! I started laughing and took pity on him missing the game so I gave him the score! He was very appreciative! 😛
 
In Germany it is not allowed for this telemarketing companies to call someone without prior approval. So if they call me and work for a company I have no contact to (read: who maybe have something useful to say) I feel free to be as rude as I want to. They made the mistake and disobeyed the rules.

I put my number on the National No Call list. The calls stopped almost immediately.

I wish my 2 & 4 year old grandkids were handy. I would love to let them fight over who would talk to the telemarketers.😀
 
I put my name on the National Do Not Call list. The best piece of legislation the government ever passed. And it works, too! No more pesky calls.

I once worked for a telesales company for a month during summer holidays as a student. nobody here tried to piss people off as it was very competive, goal based etc. Anyone trying to piss people off would have been sacked within seconds. I think you have it far worse in the USA?

The ones that annoy me most is when you know exactly which company is calling (such as your bank), you tell them to remove you from their list and they call back again every day for a month. Then I am very polite, sound interested, ask their name and then tell them that they need to remove me from the list otherwise a complaint against them personally will be in the mail. This has worked on a few occassions. Its the same with any customers service. If you have the persons full name, extension etc they are much more likely to do the job properly. The problem they have is that 'offline' work kills their call stats upon which they are judges so they have no incentive to finish up work on your issue after you hang up. The manager wants them back online asap and 'avalable'. This 'target' culure (I have done call centre work too as a student) destroys customer service entirely even tho originally the objective is to be more efficient....better.

I tell them I am on the nation do not call list and that if they call again I will report them and they will be fined. I really amon the list, but sometimes they call me anyway. That makes me angry. 😡

I turned on another wireless phone put both of the phone next to each other, and put both of them on the speaker mode. Then wait until they phone make noise "Eeeeeeeeeeee AAAAAAAAAAAAAA Voooooooooooooo AAAAAAAAA EEEEEEEEEEee" Then keep saying "hello"hello" "halooooooooo" until they hang up!
