Telephoto on RF or SLR?

I think it just takes some practice - "seeing" with longer lenses on RF. It can be said about just about any FL on RF. I personally prefer 50mm (as do many), but I try and try and try other FLs until I feel comfortable with them. I actually enjoy this challenge, yet at times it gets frustrating, but overall its fun.
 
I know what you mean about the difference in framing on an RF. It's nice to see outside the frame lines, but at the same time, its sometimes nice to see the crop on an SLR.

You guys talked me into it. I found a good price on a Summarit 90mm so I think I'm going to jump on it. It'll save me from buying a 135/2 for my Canon, which I'd then probably never use.

I'm really tempted by the Leica 90 Macro lens - if I could find it at a good price, I'd seriously consider it. The extra bit of close focusing distance (without the adapter) is tempting, as is its collapsed size. Perfect lens for keeping in the bag on a trip and pulling it out when you want to focus in on a detail, either close or far away.
 
Probably the best bargain out there if you're looking for an inexpensive compact always-take-with-you 90 is the original Minolta Rokkor-C that was introduced with the Minolta CL back in the 70's. At the time Minolta and Leitz both made the CL camera and the Rokkor-C 40mm f/2 was made by Minolta to the same formula as the Summicron-C 40mm f/2. The 90mm Rokkor-C was NOT made by Minolta. It was made in Germany by Leitz and rebadged by Minolta. The later 90mm Rokkor for the CLE has improved coatings but was made by Minolta. At any rate that trinity of 90's, any one of them, are great for sticking in your pocket.
 
Hmm. I always wondered wy people go for Elmar when they can have Elmarit for almost the same price, and the size is almost the same. And then there is the CV 90/3.5 .... it's all personal taste of course.

Tim, let us know how you like your Summarit. Not many example photos out there taken with that lens ....

For macro, I always use SLRs. There is such a host of great MF macros out there, my favorite cost me US 120 (Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5, OM mount).

I'll let you know how it all works out since there's not much on either lens. I wouldn't be doing real macro - I did that when I first got into photography with an SLR, flashes, and a 1:1 macro lens. It was fun, but not really my interest now. I do like the idea of the closer focus - perfect for when on a trip and you just went to focus on a detail.
 
I bought one of those 90/2.5 Vivitar Series 1 lenses in Minolta mount for my daughter years ago. I wouldn't mind having those optics mounted in a rangefinder coupled Leica mount even if it only focused and coupled to 3.5 feet. That was a fantastic lens.
