"Tell 'em they're dreaming'!" or incredible eBay listings

There is one vendor who prices $10 cameras at $999
They had a Minolta 16II for that price!
Just cannot believe anyone would be that stupid, either the seller or a buyer.

Hi,

What's worse is that they are allowed to vote; otoh it explains a lot...

Some of their prices are downright terrifying. 😱

agreed, as a user of cameras i find it disheartening to see cameras destined for the shelf/display case without ever being used (at those prices).

that website and the prices there are very infuriating, especially the PEN F collections 🙁

As said elsewhere in this thread, this 'trend' isn't limited to eBay only. Coincidentally, a few days ago I was sent a few examples from a Portuguese auction site, thanks to a friend from Lisbon; from time to time, he amuses himself by searching for listings with crazy price tags for junk or items that can be had for peanuts or little more.

- A 'very rare' Zenit from '1932'! Wow, the Soviet camera industry was THAT advanced back in the early Thirties:

- A most handsomely priced SRT101...

- Not the cheapest Brownie around!

Last summer I bought a nearly mint Retina IIIC for $18 from a guy who, in addition to a few dozen overpriced P&S cameras, also had a trashed Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash for $60. He said that that "some metro guy in skinny jeans will come along and buy the Hawkeye but the Retina might set forever."

What's worse is when thrift store clerks apparently get the idea they should look up the highest sold prices on ebay and stick that number on the cameras in their display case with no consideration given to the camera's condition!

Funny, I passed on a Crown kit with the usual Optar lens at the flea market last weekend. For $235 it was about a hundred bucks too much for me for these very common cameras.

Or, better yet, when one asks for the price on an unmarked bit of camera gear, the clerk goes on ebay and checks stuff out.

Once I saw in a thrift store display case, a rather overpricedLinhof Technika IV 6x9 kit accompanied by a printout of the CameraQuest page concerning it.

Where are these enlightened thrift store clerks? My local thrift store prices camera gear on some impenetrable system which ignores faults, assumes anything using film is collectable and is not open to question. And then from time to time they refuse to stock cameras because no one buys them!

Re: Kevin Cameras, I've actually bought a few things from them...or at least one lens. Some of their less expensive items are more reasonably priced, and the condition is very very good indeed. In fact, there was a point in time when some of their OM lenses were cheaper than comparable lenses from KEH. Prices look to have gone back up since I looked last.

On the flipside I just bought an absolute mint and I don't think it ever had a roll run through it Leicaflex SL with a pristine 50 Summicron and leather case for $200 on CL.
