Tell Me About The Leica 28mm f/2.8 Lenses

It seems yet again when I look at another Leica lens there are multiple versions! What can you folks tell me about these different versions. Particularly the Ver 4 and the Asph? Any reason to consider earlier versions?

There just was a thread about just those two lenses. ASPH is smaller, more contrast, and supposedly has harsher OOF rendering.

I don't own any, but from reading threads it seems performance increases (contrast and edge resolution) through the Mks until the Mk4, with the asph having similar performance in a smaller package, but with more contrast and harsher OOF areas. Most seem to regard the V4 as wonderful optically, but a touch bigger than they would like. It can also be boomin expensive second had, but has the handy 46mm filter (and the asph the 39m) whereas the V3 has the 49mm and it a touch big
