tenba messenger mini vs. domke 803

and in the meantime...i picked up a clean used safrotto 803 clone...it seems a touch bigger than the domke 803 and i really like it for my 2 xe1 bodies with attached lenses.

Thanks for all your interesting opinions.

I saw that in the net the messenger mini is often mixed with other messengers.
My ordered mini is the #638-364.
The other one is the #638-234, large.
Or the #638-224, small.

Personly I prefer the bandolier style.
On friday I receive the bag and will show you pics.

I generally prefer bandolier style carrying, but with a heavy load I find nowadays that it puts an untoward strain across my back and causes me problems. I still use smaller, light bags/kits with straps carried bandolier style.

The strap on the Mini I have is definitely curved and is one of the few that sit planted on my shoulder correctly in a "straight" carry. I've carried the kit I mentioned before with it that way for days at a time without strain.

So yes: different people, different shoulders, etc. I guess that's why we build up a raft of unused bags over time ... !

The Tenba messenger mini #638-364 arrived.

Holy moly is that a big bag when you came from the DNA8. 😱

But that was the point for kicking the DNA8, more space for daily stuff.

I have the Domke J803 which is the ballistic version, used to have the canvas one but not both at once so I can't compare. I think they're the same design and size but not sure. The J803 is a surprising bag! I have a narrow 3-compartment Domke insert in the main compartment, and recently put in TWO Canon 5D bodies, Nikkor 20mm f/4 w/EOS adapter, 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8 EF lenses, AND a 420EX and a Vivitar 2800 flashes. Plus then there were the 2 front pockets with compact charger, 2 spare BP511A batteries, a few CF cards, lens cleaning cloth, small blower bulb, and a couple other items I don't recall. The bag was definitely pregnant looking but the clasp reached the ring (barely).
