Terrible performance from site

This may help. I just got:

Warning: halt(./includes/functions_log_error.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /forums/includes/db_mysql.php on line 389

Warning: halt(): Failed opening './includes/functions_log_error.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /forums/includes/db_mysql.php on line 389

There seems to have been a slight problem with the Rangefinderforum.com database.

I have hardly been able to even view threads all day. Most of the time just error messages ("Slight problems with Database" and the like).

I still cannot get to RFF Home.

Oh well, at least it's not just me!

Working on it. Hang tight!

I wish this was Informix running on Solaris 🙁

I got a white-screen db error page about 20 minutes ago, so it seems to come and go (it's a lot faster right now). Also starting to believe the number of people logged-in is immterial to the site's sluggishness.

I'm certain the Cheese is on this as we speak!

RFF has basically been slow for me ever since joining. Doesn't matter whether I'm connecting from work, home, etc. The server move didn't help things either, as others have said.

I am a moderator at a car club that has 6,000 members, with several hundred active at one time. It's running Vbulletin 3.5, and there are no performace issues. There WERE, however. We had to move the site three times. Eventually, we changed providers entirely. We are now using Powervps and they have been terrific.

If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I'm sure this can be alleviated, and good luck!

I thought the problem was at my end and I didn't want to rock the boat...I don't understand the tek-lingo of you and several users here but I'm delighted to know it's not my computer...Ever since I found this site, I've enjoyed reading the posts and, when I have something to contribute, to join in...I'm sure you'll figure out the difficulties before very long...Meanwhile, as you suggested, patience...regards, bob

stay tuned. Will be upgrading to a whole new dedicated server soon. Obviously the last upgrade seems to have been a total flop.

Also, looking into denial of service attacks. Legal action will be taken if any such attacks are tracked to U.S origins. Already have spoken with our attorney and the data gathering is in the works.

Most likely, the forum will be put in read only when the move takes place in a few days.

What I know about computers you could inscribe on a newborn baby's little fingernail and have a bit of space left. However, I've noticed the recent slowdown. Initially thinking my computer was the felon, I discovered it was not only not a felon, but not even a suspect or a person of interest. I verified this tentative hypothesis by simply logging onto many of my other favorite websites. Hookup was instantaneous. Well, almost.

I do hope you worthies get this fixed. When I initially logged on, while waiting, I removed a new Bessa R from its box, the cv 2.5/35 from its box, the neck strap from its wrapper, and the side grip, etc. I was on the point of trying to attach the strap when bingo occurred.

The world, indeed, is marvelous fast. 25 years ago we would have been writing one another letters. Worse, for the most part we would have been unaware of one another's existence.

Today I found myself corresponding with a chap in Finland regarding a non-rf related matter.
It took seconds. When I was a child a letter to Finland would probably have gone by tramp steamer.

I'm being patient... but this is the first thread I've been able to access all day. I got logged in but haven't been able to log out.

message sent at 19:01 (pacific)... just kidding!

Is it a matter of paying for a more capable hosting site? Would it help if everyone kicked in a few bucks to upgrade to a better server?

Just a thought...

Jeff

I was last able to log on at around 3PM. It's very very slow. Getting to be not worth the effort, especially with all the b.s. that has been going on lately.

Hey... I resemble that remark!

Has anyone else noticed that this is the thread has the worst performance of the entire forum. I wait 1 - 2 minutes for all other threads, but this one takes 3 - 4 to access. 😀
