Hello all.

I just posted another little film test on my website. This time, it's Fuji Superia X-Tra 400.

Here it is!

Marc,

Thanks for posting that - very nice test! I have been using the consumer-grade Fuji Superia XTRA 400 for some time now and I am quite pleased with it. It also scans well. I shoot it at the rated speed, ISO 400. I also like Kodak Gold 100, also at the rated speed. I find that both process well and scan well.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

I have been getting excellent results with Fuji Superia 400 & 800 X-Tra. The Superia and Press films, are the same exact emulsions. I always overexpose mine by 1/3 a stop.

The Fuji "Press" version, only comes in 36 exposure rolls. While the Superia, comes in 36 & 24 exposure rolls. Some photo shops only sell the Press version in 5 packs.

I too have nothing to complain about the Fuji Superia films, but the most important thing is how incredibly cheap they can be. Go to a pro dealer (I use Calumet here in London), and they are only like £1.30 a roll!

This is my main travel film and I expose it at 250 ISO (400 + 2/3rds) in a camera that uses matrix type metering or in manual mode I'll expose for the shadow areas to give about the same results. I have many prints @ 10 x 15 inch from my local Fuji Frontier lab and they show very little grain, I don’t have any need to shoot slower films these days the results are so good with Supera 400. I shoot a lot of architecture and think the film suits it very well. For skin tones I'd recommend something like Fuji NPH 400 or NPZ 800 (another fav of mine :))

And the good part is that B & H currently sells imported 24 exposure rolls for $1.79 and imported 36 exposure rolls for $1.99. It's the same Fuji Superia 400 but they bring it into the country themselves. They are big enough to do that. If you are ever in NYC (I was last April) go check them out. It blew my mind. But then pretty much everything in NYC blew my mind.
