If a Summar image has much more haziness or "glow" than this, I would suspect fog, haze or worse on the elements.


True, they are old lenses. They must be professionally cleaned. But blowing the front lens clean with a bicycle pump before shooting is important. Dust scratches the lens - it contains very sharp particles - when it is wiped off with a cloth.

I had a look at my lens and there doesn't seem to be haze. I do see cleaning marks and a bit of dust though. Rear element seems pristine.

I find the SOOMP rather clumsy and too big. When you can find one, a FOOKH is more effective and much handier.
