Leica LTM Testing a Xenon....

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses

At the moment I don't have a Xenon 50 in screw-mount. However I do have a Xenon 50mm f1.9 in Robot Royal mount" It is an interesting lens, virtually unknown among Robot fans. They do have a 40mm f1.9 - but not the 50. Good lens, coated so contrast is higher than the prewar Xenon for Leica.
Only problem is that it is attached to a 1.1 kg camera body. To say that the Robot was overbuilt and over designed is an understatement. Even the lens mount on the Xenon looks like it is armoire plated!!

The "polishing" seems to have improved the results..
I had a 90mm f4 Leica lens.
As did a damaged Canon 50mm f1.2,
We soon parted ways..
Enjoy it while you have it.
My 50mm Collapsible Summicron is as far, as I'm ready to go..

I must say that I do not have any experience with digital photography, but from what I see I think that old lenses like this one work better with film. It is as if digital cameras amplify the shortcomings of the lenses. On film the shortcomings have a kind of charming effect instead. Maybe this is all nonsense however, very subjective for sure.

Erik.

I'm definitely willing to try it with film to see the results. I can try it on my Leica III. Of course the one 'advantage' that the Monochrom has over the Leica III is the shutter speeds that go up to 1/4000 (and allowing for wider apertures in brighter light). 1/500 is the best I can do with the III, so I might have to use something like Pan F.

Yeah good luck finding one.

I just got off the phone with Sammy Shoshan, and he has some Summarit filters that he might send me to try out. Yellow-green, and I can't remember what else.

Hi, guys! Hektor is the best ever on f2.5 - there is even a special point with mark on it "DO 2.5". It has fantastic "nazi" aperture form wich makes swirly stars bokeh. God damn I like it!

Just got that hood from eBay today -- doesn't fit.

But, I did order a hood from my Leica 'pusher' today -- it's a XOONS hood, but it's interesting in that it's not the typical 'clamp-on' style with the thumbscrew. This XOONS hood pushes on and 'bayonets' into position. It has a red dot on the ring, and you push it on, then twist to lock it. Anyone ever heard of a XOONS hood like this???

Congrats, Vince, you have a rare item. My Leica Accessory Guide says: XOONS, ... Original model had bayonet fitting, although Lager doubts wether it it was ever generally available (LIG, II p.39). Normal form has conventional clamping ring and set screw.

In fact Lager writes on that page: XOONS with bayonet fitting; never commercially available. (E. Leitz, Inc., photo)

Erik.

I haven't received it yet. Should be here Wednesday.

Judging by the photo, if you look inside the ring there's what appears to be brass underneath the flaked paint.

Some more Fast Fifties for a size comparison 🙂

Leica IIIB with Xenon,
Leica IIIc with Sonnar conversion,
Zorki IC with Jupiter-3,
Contax II with Sonnar.

Many Thanks Dominik -- yes, I think so too.

I was planning on selling this lens, but since my DIY polishing method worked so well and now that I have that rare XOONS hood, think I'm going to hang onto everything for a while!

I think I might do a 'fast 50 comparison' -- Xenon vs Noctilux! Stand back kids.....
