Not sure if you guys know this or not but the King of Thailand is/was a big fan of photography. So when it was the King's 50th Anniversary of ruling Thailand a few camera manufacturers made special edition cameras to honor him. Not only that but also a few camera shop owners received these special edition cameras too.

I've seen a few of these around here in Bangkok. (Leica and Nikon too!) Finally decided to take a couple photos to show you.

Here are the Thai Limited Edition Contax G1 and Hasselblad. The G1 came with a leather case with a metal 50th Anniversary emblem pressed into the bottom right corner. The Contax also has the Emblem laser etched into the top right corner of the camera body.

I apologize for the poor picture quality as I took them with my iPhone 😛

I think another point that some people are missing here is that because the king was such a fan of photography that made photography very popular for the whole country. Which in turn means that there are a lot of camera shops here and it's very easy to get cameras and parts that would be very hard to get in most other countries (especially the United States) not to mention the fact that film is still easily accessible and readily available everywhere.

24-Gold Plated Actually (for the M6) and the funds made from solds cameras went to environmental projects. Most of which were to help farmers with irrigation.

Also ancient (and many modern) Thai architecture contain a lot of gold.

So I'd say it's pretty appropriate that the cameras be that color.

They are gold-colored cameras... take another look

Oh okay! Yea that's cool and makes sense. I thought it was like the vulgar fools in Dubai who buy gold covered Ferraris. The absolute rock bottom of class. Trash.

^ Yeah, it's definitely not like dubai. The king here is actually very passionate about photography. Most of the older photos of him he is always carrying a Canon SLR. He has 2 photography museums also that feature his work. I have yet to visit them but I'll post some photos of it when I get a chance to.
