Thank Goodness for RFF - CV forum!

Man, at least here one can read info about CV Bessa's (like my R) and lenses to fit.
I've been on the CVUG list for a month now. It's 90% talk about Leica's going out of business, Epson's digital RF, other unrelated stuff and rarely read anything about the list's supposed purpose - CV cameras and lenses! Bless the RFF 😀

I'm on that list too. I feel the same way. It is very hard to manage threads once they get going on a mail list like that. I do more deleting than I do reading, unfortunately. Occassionally, something good pops up, but I agree with you, especially lately.

I agree, there seem to be a small vociferous group of people who know everything, know everyone, and feel compelled to write volumes on every subject. They obviously don't take photos, as they must spend all their lives at the keyboard. How sad they are!!

Hi John,
Compared to the LUG list CVUG is quite different at this point. If at all only a handful of the 1200 members still dare to point out their new photos and they get almost zero response, no matter how good their stuff is. It's more the opposite , the worse the photos are the more response can be expected, really strange.
No prob for me since RFF gives me an opportunity for a more work related interchange of informations among the members.
Best,
Bertram

What I find fascinating is those people on the CVUG who have never been iside the Leica factory, have never looked at a balance sheet or P/L statement, have no idea if there is any plans or funding for new product, aggressive marketing or capitol equipment and are positive that they have the answer to saving Leica.

BUT Gerry,
The point is CVUG is a CV list NOT a Leica list. I personally don't care what Leica did to itself or why - I'd like to here more of what I subscribed to the CV list for - info on CV cameras and lenses!
If I wanted to hear rants/raves about Leica I'd have subbed to LUG.

Bertrum,
Speaking of which, here's a shot taken with my new (to me) Bessa R and the J-8 lens. I'd heard that there was problems with close focusing, but this shot at 3 feet, looks pretty sharp to me. 😀

This test shot, at infinity, looks OK to me too.
BTW - it's Kodak "Hi-Defiinition" 400, Bessa R, J8 lens.

And the tiny Sunpak 1600A flash work well with it too. 🙂

Joe,
Manual, it's so easy to just set the "f'" and shoot. The tiny size is so right for small RF cameras, not like a GIANT Viv 285HV.
And with 2 AA batteries, you can flash all night with a spare set in your pocket.
You'll like it ~ ; - )

I am a newbie to the whole RF world, been either SLR or Digital for the last 15 years. I have NEVER been one to be interested in online forums, but the RFF has been the most interesting and resourceful online group that I have come across. I thank all of you.

That's all true, but it's a fact that many CVUG members use a M too or use M cameras even exclusively, with CV lenses mounted.
So it is unavoidable that the fate of Leica gets didscussed also on on this list.

Bertram

Even worse: Who do not know what a balance sheet is at all ! Some boys with their toys who think their personal wishlist could be the future marketing plan of Leica Camera AG. But as you know: The less you know the more simple the world looks to you. :bang:
It's a drama and it causes emotions of course . And one has to admit that there are some folks too with a clear understanding of the market and of Leica's situation .

I much prefer RFF, but I do check the CVUG also, maybe just in loyalty to Cameraquest. He got me started in rangefinders and his site has very good info on many cameras. I did receive good info from my few questions there. I just read the web page though, no e-mails.

Even though the RFF has a section for Leica discusion, the talk of it's demise hasn't taken over the entire list. The talk of "how to save Leica" has completely taken over the CVUG list, I'm ready to bail there.
But I'm here to stay ~ ; - )

This forum is a lot better then CVUG, On CVUG I immediately delete every topic about the leica problems, but I find a lot of the other posts quite interesting. Well a lot of subjects on RFF are also mentioned in CVUG (or vice versa).

But RFF is the best forum of which I am a member (It used to be the second best before I closed my own forum 😎 ), everyone is so polite. That's a big difference with www.fotoapparatuur.nl a dutch forum 😛

I agree. With most online forums the anonymity of a screen name is a license to behave badly. Most forums are like duck-blinds, where people lie in wait to shoot down opinions or evidence of inexperience. Not here however, nor really at CVUG. I think we should take care in our discussion of CVUG so as not to sound like the folks at PN, when they described our forum in seemingly derogatory terms as "grey" (see posting from earlier in the week). Anyway, cheers and thanks. 🙂

Ray,
Hopefully I'm not coming off as bad-mouthing CVUG, just venting my frustration about wading through 90+% off topic post there. Hey if that's how they want to run it, I'm just a new guy there.
I've got a question up there now, I'll see how it gets answered.
Anyone that knows me, knows I'm far from "grey" but I LOVE the RFF!!
