Hello to everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks really. I have been reading this site for... more than a year now. When I started to get the itch for a rangefinder, started to look for a place where to gather some information about rangefinders. Not having too much money, not liking very much Canonets or other fixed lens rangefinders, well... I found my only option was a russian rangefinder.

And I am glad I took the decision!

Thanks to this forum, I learned how to adjust the rangefinder on my Zorki 4, both vertically and horizontally, learned about lenses, learned a lot indeed. I attach a picture of my camera. It has a home made brown leatherette, the self timer is gone since it bothered me (I don't use it and kept moving it everytime I grabbed the camera), and a really nice Jupiter 8. I also have a Leitz Summitar 50/2, but what can I say... I like more the way the Jupiter 8 looks on the camera. Besides that, the Summitar seems to be fragile compared to the Jupiter.

I really like the camera. Again, thanks to this forum, I cleaned it, took it apart, adjusted curtain's speed and barrel tension, and lubed it. Thanks to this forum, I took apart the jupiter 8, collimated it, adjusted it, cleaned it and it's really nice now! very sharp indeed and very smooth working. Not too much to envy to the Summitar. Now, I have a bulletproof shooter, that takes nice pictures, allows me to focus quickly, it's VERY silent when compared with my previous reflex camera, and fits in my urban backpack nicely and comfortable. The leatherette gives it a warmth feeling that makes me enjoy even having it on my hands only!

Well... enough said, I guess is crystal clear I like this camera.

Thanks again to all the people that contributes to make this place such a nice cafe.

Best regards
Bas.

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome Bas! A year ago today I could have written your letter: I'd just bought my FED and was lurking in the background, eagerly sucking up knowledge from the threads! Believe me, this is only the start: the whole rich madness of FSU cameras lies open before you! Enjoy!

And you're absolutely right, this is a very nice cafe! The FSU corner is full of hairy characters, wild schemes and dreams - but I think you'll find us quite amusing company! :D

¡salud!

Ian

Here are some pictures taken with the Zorki 4 and Jupiter 8 lens. After I read "It would be nice to see some of your pictures too", I went out today and shot some pictures, developed the film, and here are a couple of pictures.

The images are somewhat degraded... due my poor scanner, jpg compression, and beeing scanned from negatives.

The files were processed with The Gimp, and the only thing modified was a little of dust and scratch removal (sorry, couldn't remove everything, still there are a lot of marks), and contrast/brightness.

The tech data is:
Film: Agfa APX 400
Developer: Kodak Xtol, 8 minutes at 20ºC.
Camera: Zorki 4
Lens: Jupiter 8
Exposure: guessestimated.
Scanner: KYE Genius HR8 flatbed film scanner
Resolution of the scan: 1200 dpi.

My photographic eye is not in question... well, the lack of it! . Anyways, I hope you like these images!

Cheers and thanks for the warmth welcome!

or... well.. ¡salud!

Sebastian.

Sebastian ~

Looks like you've definately got a winner there. Great pics and nice looking Zorki. My first FSU was a Zorki.4 as well, purchased just to get the Jupiter. Kept the Zorki and sold the camera I wanted the Jupiter for. And I haven't looked back. You can see in my sig, the Zorki.4 wasn't my last. Enjoy!! And welcome aboard!
