Thanks Josh

Class and courage. A member of 'the other place' recently asked people who used flickr to post their favourite slideshows/gallerys and was taken to task for his 'dis-loyalty'.

Josh, on another day I might agree with you, but not today.

But I've more to say. I will not denegrate other web sites, but will praise the respect that permeates virtually every post, here. Seldom, if at all, has someone replied to a sincere question with "Google it". Seldom, no really never, have I heard someone that admires his gear accused with a term that, I assume, the English use for masturbation (not that there's anything wrong with that). I remember once when a poster began to be critical of a member that I don't particularly like either. Our moderator kind of gently tapped him on the nose like I would have one of my pointers, back when I bird hunted, that would not back (note that this is no invitation for another Cheney joke) and all went back to normal.

I don't post a lot but I read a lot, learn a lot (I think), sell a lot, and buy as much. I like it here and slowly but surely, others are hearing about this place. With the leadership and the cadre of this place, I'm not too worried.

In a post below a guy from India dotes on the daughter of one of our members, volunteering to be her Grand-pa. That touched me about as much as anything I've ever read. I'm not sure I'd ever get to read such anywhere else.

All of that was parethetical and free of charge. I turn 60 Friday so I thought it my right. But, Josh, don't sell yourself short. A guy that has a little integrity AND collects fountain pens, can't be all bad.

Gene, Josh bravely posted on Pnet about our Popflash/RFF photo contest.

It seems to have vanished. Deleted. "Sigh."

I read Josh's post earlier today and ya.. I concur.. takes a bit of guts to do that - Joe was right there backing him up and there were a number or at least a few questions regarding it.

I think slowly people are understanding, as Butch has said, that it doesn't have to be "that way" that it sometimes is over "there".

They come here.. see that it's more about the whole experience and not just about who owns what and how much one has.... it's more about the communal experience that we all share by shooting, displaying and discussing these pieces of equipment.

Good on you my friend 🙂

Cheers
Dave

Nothing like ending the work day by getting a nice compliment! Thank you.

In any case, I have never seen the problem with being a member of various communities on the web. In the past, web site creators/maintainers would try to keep their members very "loyal" purely for advertising revenue purposes. But in practice, we all know it is perfectly possible to be a loyal member of any number of web communities at once. It all just depends on how much time you have to "waste" discussing any one thing on the internet.

I am very much a member of both PN and this site. Both have wonderful aspects about them and I frequent them for very different purposes.

And FWIW the thread in question has not been deleted. In fact, it appears to have generated some new interest in the contest by a few members who missed the first announcement about it. So "mission accomplished" I guess.

RFF is my oasis away from Pnet's Leica forum and its various pettiness. Not sure inviting the barbarians at the gate in is the best way to keep our community civil. Hopefully this will just draw in the gentlemen and gentle ladies of Pnet (of which there still are a few).

Let the chips fall where they may 🙂 Fingers crossed.

I must agree Joe, I've come to think of Frank as our lucky talisman ... and a damn pristine one at that!
