About the best looking CV lens, but....it does not seem to focus as well wide open as the CV 40mm or am I getting soft in the eyes?
Also can some one out there explain EBL?

Effective Base Length is the distance between the RF window and the viewfinder multiplied by the magnifucation of the viewfinder. It is essentially the base of the triangle that the camera uses to measure distance to the point of focus. The bigger the base, the more accurate the measurement.

SO on a Nikon: ~60mm distance between the RF window and the viewfinder. On an S2, SP, S3 and S4: 1X magnification, 60mm Effective Baselength. On a Nikon I, M, or S: 0.6x Magnification, 36mm EBL.

It is easier to get more precise focussing when the EBL is greater. The older Nikon might have a problem with an F1.1 lens.

BTW: I have used the Canon 50mm F1.2 on my Bessa R2 without problem. It just takes a little more care to get the focus right.
