What do you call those first 1 or 2 shots you take before the film counter reaches "1?"

Those are sometimes my "best shots", though I have to crop the weird side off.

Magic!
I call them the cheapskate frames. that is not an insult at others, by the way, just a tongue-in-cheek reference to me trying to eke as much out of a film as possible.
Doesn't always happen though.

I find I'm getting 1 good frame and 1 frame with a ragged edge when shooting my bessa R3A.
I need to start pointing them at something on purpose.

it is the only part of the roll that can be used to photograph fairies or gnomes.

I do mostly self-portraits, most often out of focus because I'm inside and my arms are short

Wind-ons. I don't use them for anything because if I did they would always be ruined by a lightleak or the sort.

I usually snap a shot of myself in the mirror, if i'm near one.

A shot of the camera in a mirror -- to let me know what lens I started the roll with.

Maybe we should call it careful film loading. I usually get one freebe per 35mm roll. Doesn't work for 120 through.

The best camera is one that still works!

Good idea. I'll have to remember that.
