I thought it was a scratch and a spec of dist in the print. Spider Web Thread and a gnat.

That last shot shows everything I love about my 105 Nikon mount lens. The lens is very sharp, and then everything fades out of focus gracefully. Its a great great lens. Incidentally, the Nikon mount lens was used for the famous Afghan girl shot by McCurray.

Did you say Nippon Kogaku
I have one in Nikon S mount and one of every F mount!
I lost count!
The best one I like is the all black pre AI model that stops down to F32.
Looks nice on the D40x

probably not the same one but i have a AI'ed all black one that I love very much. It looks sharper than my S mount 105/2.5. I could be wrong since I never compared them side by side.
both are wonderful lenses.

Here is a nice summary of the different SLR versions:
http://www.camerarepair.com/Used-Cameras/Nikon-MF-SLR-C3/Lenses-C9/105mm-10.5cm-f2.5-Nikkor-P32
One can recognize the Sonnar having the scalloped focus and chrome aperture rings.
Newer designs are Xenotar based. My SLR version is one of those and a great performer.
If you like the 10.5 for RF, you might also want to try the 85/2. I like it better on RF, since it's smaller, lighter (the black one at least), faster and has shorter min. focus. Nikkor teles rock.
Cheers,
Roland.

I do not have them all- but have a late S-Mount, late LTM, "Pat-Pend" F-mount, later Sonnar F-Mount, new formula all-black F-mount Nikkor-PC (which is the prettiest of them all), and an AI lens. They are all good. The F-Mount lenses used to be easy to find under $100. Not so much anymore.
The S-Mount 10.5cm f2.5 on a Nikon SP or S3 is my favorite user.

I have the Nikkor 105mm AI-s on my F4, and I believe my version is a non-Sonnar design but I still love it. We're still getting to know each other.

Are these RF or SLR images?
These are from a Nikon FE2 with the 105.

This image was taken with the 105 2.5 ais wide open on a d700:

Great lens in any guise!
Just checked Roland Vink's website and it looks like the sonnar SLR lens was made from June 1959 to March 1971 with a serial no. range from 120101 to 286276. The new version was released in April 1971 with serial no.s starting from 40****.

Thanks for the info Jon. Apparently mine is the type C, nikkor P.C auto, black barrel and stop down to F32. I like it very much.

Sounds to me like you do have all of them!
Brian, when you mention:" new formula all-black F-mount Nikkor-PC (which is the prettiest of them all)" Do you mean the all black with the scalloped focus ring?

Borrowed from Roland's site.
Strangely, Bruce from Camerarepair.com omits this one on his webpage. This one closes to F32

Yes- that's the one. Mine is multicoated, and Mint.
The one that you have is the first of the new formula 105's. That one, the multi-coated 105/2.5 Nikkor PC, and the NON-AI RIFR all go to F32 (silver box). The AI and AIS versions dropped back to F22. Diffraction with F32 was a problem and is the reason Nikon dropped it back to F22.
I do not have the single-coated Xenotar (Planar type) lens.

I don't want to threadjack, but this looks like a good place to ask.
Are AI conversion kits still available for this lens? I have the final non-AI version, so it has the rubberized focus collar and non-scalloped aperture ring. I'd sure get more use out of it if I could mount it on, say, my FA, N90S or D80.
