The 105 f/2.5 is amazing...

SLR version at 2.5 on a D200

I bought it on a whim and have only used it a few short times, obviously based on the pictures in this thread I should use it more often.

The Pentax super takumar and smc takumar 105mm f2.8 may not be quite in the same league but these are no slouches either....

Here is a thread and a few photos.

I have been trying to access mine on photobucket but the site seems to be down right now - I will post later if I can. Having said that I also have the sonnar version of the Nikkor and love it. It truly is special.

EDIT: ahhh here it is

I have both. The Takumar has a slightly gentler character and is a lovely lens. I would say they are pretty much on par.

The Pentax SMC 85mm 1.8 is in my opinion in the same league as the Nikkor 105mm 2.5 or the Nikkor 85mm 2.0.

Thread revival! I just received a very nice looking 105/2.5 LTM with original hood, courtesy of MAP Camera in Tokyo. Can't help but post some shot of the lens first, pics from it will have to wait till the rain stop.

Hans- I use a 10.5cm F2.5 with my M3. I find that the inner border of the 9cm framelines are very close to 100% of the image on the negative. Tight framing, but I never bother with an external finder.

I suspect the same, the external finder is ~10% tighter than the inner 90 frame. I'll see how the negs come out to see if I can ditch the finder.

Finally some sample from mine! This lens handle beautifully on the M3, and the "bokeh" is very smooth, decent sharpness wide open as well.

This thread has always given me serious gas for this lens and now I have the Nikon bodies to use it on ... FM3A and D700.

And it's not expensive at KEH ... Lemmee at it! :D

I think you knew this already but just want to make sure, the 105 that is similar to the LTM version is the scalloped ring type, pre-AI ;) The AI/AIS is a different formula.

But does still actually mount on current Nikon bodies I hope?

With the pre-AI version you have to modify the lens mount, either buy a conversion kit, or just take a file and sand it down. But if you're not fussy just get the AIS version, it's great. I have all three, LTM, pre-AI and AIS and aside from the build quality of the AIS which IMO is not as nice as the other two, they all perform flawlessly.

I have the AI version of this lens (S#6853XX) and it's in great condition, the glass is near perfect...I just don't grab it that often...I have read many reviews boasting just what this lens is capable of doing...I need to use it more...
I was just checking the prices on *bay...I think mine's gone up in value...
