The 2 Euro Leica: Leica Mini II

Found a Leica Mini II at a flea market this weekend. A 'made in Japan for Leica' P&S. It proudly shows the red dot and the fact it has a 35mm f3.5 'Elmar' lens.

Googling a bit I found little info on this camera and how it compares to popular fixed focal lenth P&S cameras like the Yashica T4/5 and the Olympus Mju-II (Stylus Epic).

I will definitely will put a roll through it, but has anyone experience with this? Who produced it (my guess is Minolta), how good is the lens?

Thanks, I missed that. So a Kyocera then. If it is a good as the T4 I really do have too many very good 35mm compacts now!

Two euros is a nice price. Better than the Minolta and Pnasonic's usual price!

Here's a photo of the three contenders in the "who made it competition".

I've owned all of them except the Leica mini II and so can't comment on it but the first mini's flash had no setting for the anti-red-eye pre-flash. Unlike the Panasonic and Minolta, but the mini III has. So I wondered if the Minolta and Panasonic were mini one and a halfs...

PS Having typed that I remembered that I've the dealer's wad of stuff announcing the mini II somewhere. I'll try and find it in between meals etc.

I've just found the dealers' sales pack etc and it goes on about the lens designed by Leica and so on but no mention of where it was made or who by.

I showed the fronts of the three contenders previously, so here they are again with the backs open.

That's a great price for a nice little point and shoot! I paid about $20 for mine. Although I like that the Stylus Epic is smaller and has F2.8, I think the lens on the Leica is better. I've shot some great slides with it. The Leica Mini framelines match my M3 too!
