The $40 Challenge - The Contenders

Well, if we're carrying on (and why not), I have another contender. And one waiting for me at the post office - a Minox this time, so sadly not another rangefinder (or, I should say, another not-rangefinder, given the Trip I've already used). Private sale from a mate, so I'm afraid you'll have to take it on trust I paid £20. Actually, that reminds me - I haven't paid him yet. Mustn't forget.

Here's mine! Won it for 35.38 and only $4 shipping, so I am in for few cents.

It takes pretty good pics by the way. I will post a sample.

$37.49 + zero shipping because it is a local sale.

Vitessa T with 35mm Skoparet and 50mm Color-Skopar. I'm just missing one more lens, the 100mm Dynarex.
The neat thing is the viewfinder, I assume the built in VF is for 35mm, the attached viewfinder is 50mm and it can rotate 180 degree to become 100mm, and it has a dial on the side for setting parallax compensation.

Isn't that neat?
And look at that lovely leather lens case. Why can't they make stuff this nice nowadays?

Nice!

Love my Trip. I was just showing it to a very skilled photog friend (she prefers digital Nikon SLRs), and realised how hard it might be to belileve what a great camera it is. Baffles me. And in black, for extra cool points. 😉

Is that Vitessa the first entrant with more than one lens? Super find.

Canonet 28 ~ $21.50

Canonet 28 ~ $21.50

Hello, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post...

Here is my Canonet 28 that I bought on eBay for $21.50 and $8 shipping.

Metering on the Canonet 28 is fully automatic so if the meter is dead you are out of luck. You can adjust the aperture manually, but then the shutter defaults to 1/30. When I first got it, I installed a Wein Cell zinc-air battery. I turned the dial to auto but no dice...the shutter speed needle didn't move and my heart sank. Then I read online that zinc air batteries need some time to 'warm up' so I tried again a few days later and the meter jumped to life.

This is a great compact rangefinder. It's solid as a rock and has a sharp little lens that never fails to impress me. A steal at 21.50. I added my favorite strap that I bought when I lived in Japan.

Here are some recent photos...

It was a pain to try and get my screenshot from eBay uploaded, but I can add if it's really necessary.

Thanks for looking!

At the local Auction house on the weekend and picked up 2 little nice ones in a bulk box of bits for $80. I guess since there was other items in the box that puts me below the $40 each mark 🙂. No recipt unfortunantly.

I will load them next weekend and shoot away.

Oly Pen in very good condition. Just got to replae the degraded light seals. and i think my partner might steal it if im not careful where i place it.

The second was something i haven't come across before.
Altix Altessa. Haven't had a decent look at it but apears to be in working order. Just the aperature ring is stiff after f8.
