The best camera I've ever used... period.

Glad to hear the X100 is getting out of the way of people making images! The X100, the new anti-GAS medication! ;)

I love mine. I only worry about it's longevity. It feels electronic to me, and I see that aperture opening and closing all the time. I'd love to see a "professional" version...simply, one that will last years in use. Maybe weather sealed (since it's so electronic), case-hardened, etc. I'd LIKE to use it as a professional tool, but I've got a nagging feeling it may fail when I have to depend upon it. I think this is where dSLRs lead the pack...they're prone to survive more abuse in the field.

I carry the X100 daily. I use it as if it were a RF camera.

The ability to shoot at ISO 3200 and get a useable B&W print is a game changer for me. I rarely go slower than 1/125 which makes the most out of the lens.

The only inherent flaw is the ghosting present from bright point source lights, especially at night. This I can live with.

This winter I entered three 12 X 18 color prints from the X100 in a local, juried, gallery exhibition. There were 75 accepted out of about 160 entries and 3 of them were mine. Two were at ISO 800 in EV 6 - 7 light. Two were spontaneous just because I had the camera with me because it' so easy to carry. One took an honorable mention. Not bad from a camera that someone here claimed was impossible to focus a couple of months ago.

And, Scott Kelby an RC can go ....

i too am happy with mine. it's a good value in a small package.

i still don't get why everyone assumes a "full frame" camera will be released. i honestly don't think that camera manufacturers see this as something worth pursuing. the reason SLRs do it (as does Leica) is because of all the glass that's out there. because the x-mount is new, they can craft glass made for the sensor.

and the new 35/1.4 in XF mount is simply stellar, like Zeiss or Leica, at CV prices.

Nice post, Jamie!

I wanted a 50 efov and waited for the X-Pro1; certainly was worth it, for me!

i pray that fuji doesn't abandon the idea (x100) now that the x1 is out.

i would do a little dance if they came out with some alternate focal lengths.

an x100 with a 28? ooh baby

x100 with a fast 50?

a complete kit for me

I've played around with an X100, albeit not extensively, but still I can't help but feel limited by the fact that it's a fixed-lens camera--and a $1000 one at that. I also wonder if it would receive as much as love as it does if it didn't look like a retro rangefinder. My guess is no, but ultimately it doesn't matter what I think. Other seem to like it for their photography and really that's all that matters!

Hooray for the X100. I bought one recently, and I find that it is all that it promised to be. Great lens, compact, looks good, joy to use, great sensor, legendary fill flash and exposure, and about the same price as the Zeiss 24/1.8 for NEX-7 alone.

Lots of internet whiners want to complain about irrelevancies. I found them very easy to deal with. The AF speed and accuracy is fine. Not quite as good as my Nikon SLRs, but that's OK because I have a Nikon SLR for that. You can set it for hyperfocal/zone focusing, which solves a lot of the AF issues. Also, it is apparently programmed to reset AF on every shot, which makes taking multiple shots difficult. The solution is to put it in MF mode, use the AFL button to set focus, and then shoot as much as you want without AF lag. Three or four days with the camera and you'd figure all this out; most people just want to talk about it online apparently. In many ways, I think it is still the best compact/large-sensor cam out there. But, that depends on your overall approach. For portraits and landscapes, I'd rather use my Nikon SLR, and I'm mostly a one-lens guy anyway, so the single lens doesn't bother me.

I'm moving in this direction as well... medium or large format film for the days of contemplative photography. Digital for the rest. :)

But here's the thing... once you have an X100, and once you develop all your personal 'work-arounds'... the GAS begins to dissipate. :)

Weather-sealed, case-hardened... YES! And it would be great if they'd replace the goofy filter adapter/hood mistake with something like the Hexar AF built-in hood.

I'd like a 50 efov as well. Maybe, just MAYBE, I'll go for the XPro1 as the rear cap for all my junk store lenses. Just waiting for the Chinese to get there act together building the Minolta-to, Pentax-to, OM-to, Adaptall-to adapters. :)

OK, Joe. Here's what you do: Buy the X100 one more time. When it arrives, take out a sharp object and put a scratch across the LCD screen. Then you'll never be able to sell it, AND you'll always be reminded of your original decision to keep this wonderful machine FOREVER! :)
