my Auto ISO is a set and forget kinda deal unless i need more than ISO 1600. i was hoping in the Fn menu either i pick a manual ISO or use the Auto ISO. for me, configuring the Auto ISO can stay where it was.

Keith, just think of how much money you'd save over M9 that you were thinking about!! In the end it is all about the savings not the spending ha,ha,ha. 😀😀
I remember the reasons you passed the camera onto paulfish, I think you tried using the camera for what it wasn't designed for (dark indoors with moving subjects). x100 definitely has it's quirks but I never liked any digital camera as much. My x100 really feels like a film camera once I put it in its leather case, disable replay and use OVF only.

It would have been nice if they'd fixed the problems first rather than rushing the camera out. The firmware changes have greatly improved the camera at every step. I'm pleased, though, that Fuji has stuck with it and kept upgrading the firmware in response to feedback.

In a pefect world yes!

Though I think Fuji have probably really needed that feedback from owners to impliment these changes/improvements via firmware upgrades. Hats off to them IMO. 🙂

I don't know why everyone whines about the manual focus. Just like the Nikon AF-S lenses, which also have a manual focus ring on autofocus lenses, they are not intended as the primary focusing system. It is an adjunct to autofocus for:

a) zone/hyperfocal focusing;
b) correcting AF focus mistakes;
c) setting focus when AF is having trouble, sometimes in macro for example or perhaps low light.

Nobody complains about the Nikon manual focus rings. And, nobody tries to use them as the primary focus method. Bring extra batteries, I bought a set of two on eBay for $10 including shipping. Can you believe this whining? Now go take pictures.

One of his comments parallels the comments here - (roughly) "... turn off all the bells and whistles..." Use the camera like you'd use a film camera for street photography.

I came late to the party, only having had my X100 for about a month. I was going to use it for personal work and keep using the D7000 for microstock. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the X100 images keep getting accepted by the agencies so that the poor Nikon is not getting out much. Maybe the D7000 will be traded for an X-Pro 1 sometime later this year. That camera should have the X100's advantages, plus interchangable lenses and even zooms and telephotos can be used with the EVF.

Thankfully the good folks at Fuji don't share your abysmal attitude and greatly improved the manual focusing in the latest firmware update.
 
I've been using the X100 for the past few weeks as a general carry around camera and I find it fast and mostly reliable. I am working around the quirks and I can see why many people call it the best camera they have used.

My journey into digital photography started with the Canon S45, which had a 35/2.8 eq. lens, and I can say that I would have LOVED this camera if I had it back then! It is ticks the boxes for speed, silence, autofocus, image quality, movie mode, good looks, good handling and usable OVF. I have loads of other cameras but none of them give this combination of values which makes it unique in my book.
 
I was about to buy a Zeiss 24/1.8 e-mount lens, but ended up getting X100 instead. It has similar price & similar focal length. But it comes with a camera bolted on the rear end. I'm happy.

Due to all sorts of stuff, I couldn't continue a film workflow, so had to do a 'mandatory' switch to digital. I thought I'd miss my M4-P + 35mm like hell.
The X100 is the only reason I barely even think back of the Leica!
