The best camera you never liked?

Nikon F3 - just never liked either the meter read-out or the metering pattern. And I agree about the Olympus Epic/MJUII - the image quality never seemed wonderful to me.

Leica M9. Boring camera. I thought i would love it, but no... I don´t find the meaning with a digital rangefinder for that price. The Leica MM a digital rangefinder i do understand becouse it offers something that nothing else do, it makes you commit.

The cameras that I have owned and used that just never caught on with me were a Leica M8.2 and the M7. I had high hopes for them but sadly I just never liked them very much. I shoot with other Leicas and I enjoy using them. - jim

I can sort of agree about the M9... We never bonded. It was never completely sorted out and I remained fonder of the M8, which though it had some controversial issues early on, worked out to my complete satisfaction. I still like the M8 and continue to use them, but as soon as the next generation came along I boxed up the M9 for sale.

Price -- I just don't share the feeling of some who are reluctant to carry such an expensive camera, or stew about the price. As Édith Piaf sang, "Non, je ne regrette rien." It costs what it costs, it either fits the budget or not. As always you look for the best deal. And one goes from there with no looking back, I think. It's just another camera to be used to the best of one's ability.

I have never liked an Olympus OM camera. When I grab an OM in my hands it feels like a toy. I particularly hate the film winding.

I never bonded with my Leica M4-P either. I didn't dislike it but I had a nagging feeling it's just too expensive camera for me and always left it at home.

Rolleiflex, and other TLRs. Nice compact and light, but too much limited especially with close focusing (never had a chance to try the rolleinar, though).

Voigtlander Bessa II.
I was looking forward to 6x9 shots but the film plane was never flat - even after a repair.
I couldn't even get sharpness across the film plane at f/11.

I must confess that since the mid 60's, I've had a love-hate relationship with the Nikon F. I love the reliability, F lens mount and available lenses and accesories but I hate the weight, removable back and strange shutter release position.

Right now I own three of them.

Right now I own nine of them - And I like them:)

Another vote for the Bronica RF645. At the same time the best handling MF camera I own with optical great results but it just never feels right. Not enough wide angle, not enough long focals, a viewfinder that gets out of alignment by looking through it, very slow lenses, too much shots of the backside of the lenscap etc. But when you nail it it delivers great shots.

I'd like to get rid of it but I just can't do it.

I'll throw another one in: Mamiya 7. Loved the negs and slides, great 6x7 format, but the cheap feel of the camera turned me off from the start. It felt like it wouldn't survive even the smallest bump or drop. Plus the viewfinder just doesn't compare to my M4's. Sold mine a few weeks back and my Rolleiflex is filling that 120-sized hole in my heart.
